They said his name a few times on the ESPN broadcast tonight. Rick Sutcliffe seemed to be of the opinion that the Sox would never win again if they didnt make a trade for him.

So far hardy's season hasnt exactly been overwhelming. Only a .703 OPS in 180+ plate appearances. He does have some power though. I dont know how his fielding is, but he has only made 3 errors this season. Of course that could mean he just doesnt get to many balls. I just dont know much about him. But he is completely crammed full of Not Being Julio Lugo Or Nick Green, so i would be fully in favor of the Sox acquiring him (for the right price of course).

Also i believe this is hardy's 5th year of ML service, which makes him arbitration eligible, which means if the Sox acquired him would be able to put off a big FA payday until after the 2010 season. Or buy out his last arbitration year like they did with Kyook and Dusty

That's not much lower than his career OPS actually (.768). However, he's still an upgrade over Green or Lugo and with his pop, would fit nicely into the bottom of the Sox order.

He has topped 20 HRs in a season twice. Lugo, Lowrie and Green combined couldnt do that.

I dont want to jinx anything, but this is almost like a conversation. And one that doesnt have day long breaks between comments.

The Brewers are in first place. I had no idea. I cant imagine they would trade away their starting SS with the backup being a minor leaguer with a handful of ML at bats.

Course maybe they do a Hardy for Jed Lowrie/Brad Penny/Prospect not named Buchholz, Bowden or Anderson. Lowrie becomes their starting SS/bridge to Hotshot Prospect whose name i cant remember. Penny strengthens their rotation. The Sox get a young cost controlled SS with a bit more pop than any of the current SS have, and open a rotation spot for Smoltz or Buchholz.

Yeah, no way. In fact, I'm not even sure the Sox would do that, let alone the Brewers. Why trade an under-achieving (but healthy) SS for a guy coming off the shelf from an injury that some believed may have been season ending initially?

But I know you're just throwing it against the wall since God, er.... I mean... Rick Sutcliffe brought it up to begin with.
