Well that's heartwarming. He was always a really likable guy, but never good enough to be one of the boyz. Good luck, Gabe!

I've always been a big Gabe fan. They should have video of him playing in Boston and give it to all the new players. Then, after they all watch it, tell them, "This is how you succeed in Boston. You don't have to be the best player but you have to give 110% all the time."
<O:p</O:pI was lucky enough to have tickets to Gabe's first game back from injury last year. It was so awesome. When he got in the on-deck circle, the buzz started. Then as he got up to the plate, the crowed erupted in one of the loudest standing-O's I've ever seen. I was sitting next to a couple of guys from Minnesota in town on business and they asked me, "Who is that guy and why is he getting such a loud ovation?". They were a little confused as to why a utility player would get a bigger ovation than say David Ortiz or Manny.
<O:p</O:pGabe is the man! I hope that he succeeds as a manager. I'd love to see him manage the BoSox some time in the future...or at the very least get a first or third base coaching job.
