Rangers-Phillies would be interesting, if Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay get to square off.

But seriously, folks ... even though Manager of the Year is supposed to be based on the regular season, whoever votes on that award is going to look really really stupid if it doesn't go to Washington.

What do you have against them? They've been a non-factor for 38 years.

What do I have against them? It's not hard to figure out. They play in the AL against the Red Sox. They may not be the Yankees, but they are still a rival.

They don't play in the AL against the Red Sox. They play in the World Series against the Giants.
When the Red Sox are not in the World Series, I think it's ok to pick a side. They won't be a rival again until April 3.

Huh? Of course they play against the Red Sox and of course in the era of the Wild Card they are a rival. And using that logic then I guess it would be ok to root for the Yankees too.
I already said I was going to root for the Rangers. And I will. I am just surprised that you think I should be a fan. I'm not.

I'm just rooting for an entertaining series. I have nothing against the Giants now that Barry Bonds is gone.

Yes, funny how his departure made them much more likable.

I have no particular love for either team.

I have no particular love for either team.usually I feel this way but I want to see Josh Hamilton win it.....then we can see the after school special movie on how to re-invent yourself, pick yourself up and brush all the shit off and come out smelling like a rose
or in truth you have to love what he has done and respect the effort required daily to maintain

Except I just know he will relapse and end up wasted in a gutter some where.
And for the record...yes, I am evil!

I do recall he slipped last january and had some beer or booze or something
to be honest I expect a relapse but I hope it is at age 40 when he is sitting beside a depends wearing Pete Rose signing autographs in Vegas

There's only one AL team standing. There's no playing against the Red Sox. Sorry if you live in denial.
They just did a story on ESPN Radio on how Boston is the most apathetic sports city in the US toward non-home teams, and I think that's sad. I understand the Sox are your life -- mine too -- but there's something to be said for being a fan of the sport.
Imagine the Red Sox are a half game up on Toronto on the last day of the season and the Jays are playing the last-place Yankees. Gee, that wasnt hard to dream up a "root for the Yankees" scenario. It's all relative, and right now there are 2 teams and I'm a baseball fan. I live in DFW and because I watch every Sox game, I knew nothing about this Ranger team, but they seem to be a really interesting story. I don't see what your head-scratching is about.

You so completely have missed my point. I am not even sure what you are saying now. I think I understand that the Texas Rangers are in the WS against the SF Giants. I got that part. My point was that I am not a big fan of the Rangers because they are an AL team. I don't usually root AL in the WS if the Sox aren't in. This year I was going to root for the Rangers because it is an interesting story. But, still I am not a fan. And I am still confused how the Rangers can't be considered a rival of the Red Sox?
They do play against each other in the AL during the regular season, no? They could compete for a WC playoff berth at the same time, no? And they could end up playing each other in the ALDS or ALCS, right? Same as the Yankees or Rays, right? And while I will readily admit I don't have the same feelings for the Rangers as I would the MFY's or Rays. Still, you could logically conclude that the Sox and Rangers are AL rivals,no?
I'm not sure how this is considered denial? What exactly am I denying?

I don't usually root AL in the WS if the Sox aren't in.
The Sox play NL teams too, via interleague play. A loss in June to the Phillies could result in the Sox missing the playoffs by a game. Maybe you shouldn't root for the NL either. The team you root for -- the winner of this WS -- has no impact on the 2010 Red Sox success/failure. That's craziness to me.
I'm not sure how this is considered denial? What exactly am I denying?
That the Red Sox are not in this WS? That the Sox and Rangers won't be rivals in the standings/on the field/competing for a berth again until 2011?
To each his own, but I personally think not rooting for the Rangers because they could hypothetically keep the Red Sox out of the playoffs at some point in the undetermined future (note: this has never happened in baseball history) is a little... out there. I choose to enjoy this World Series, as I do every World Series that doesn't result in a ticker tape parade through Manhattan.

DO you understand English? Not rooting for the Rangers? I have posted in this thread twice that I am rooting for them. Here....I think I might actually have to root for the Rangers in the WS.
And here....This year I was going to root for the Rangers because it is an interesting story. But, still I am not a fan.
I really don't even understand your point anymore. So I think this is all I'm going to say on the subject.

I'll drop it, whatever. Your "do you understand english" is rude, and I think we're miles apart on our points. And as a native english speaker, I understand you're rooting for the Rangers, I was speaking in more general terms.

Sorry, I can't resist.
I'll apologize for the "speak English" remark. I guess it's not rude to call my ideas crazy or "out there". So I am sorry for what I said.

It's not a forgone conclusion that he won't stay. Texas now has some money.
Even if he did leave, the Rangers have some talent. Enough to compete as they did before Lee came on the scene.

The Rangers signed a huge tv contract. They can afford to keep him.
