I really like John Lackey but wtf?
He's pulling a Dice-K out there.
3-1 Jays after 1.

Nice job by Nava. Game tied.
With the pitch counts the way they are going on both sides of the field, it looks like we'll be playing another round of 'Bullpen Bingo' today.

Wow Lackey is a little, ummm, rough today. 42 pitches and he is in the second inning!!!! He won't get to the 5th at this pace.

OK. He survived the second.

Well, I guess that qualifies as a 'shut down inning.' I guess.

Oh ... I thought that came from Animal House. But I think you are correct ... because the line in Animal House is actually "Thank you, Sir, may I have another?"

At the beginning of the season, I talked to a Ranger fan who was upset the Sox got Lackey because he "loves watching the rangers crush him 4 or 5 times a season." I try to like everyone on my team but man, do I hate this bastard. And just to be consistent: I hate him on his best day too.

I disagree. At this pace, we'll be in 5th place in no time.

True, but the Animal House reference makes more sense in this case. In Animal House, they were talking about a beating. In Oliver Twist, he wanted more to eat.

He might have sold that if he hadn't been trying to over-sell it so much.
Then again, maybe that particular umpire does not need glasses.

Yeah, when you get so little of the ball that the catcher has no problem catching the pitch, there's no reason to be spinning in circles in unbearable pain. Had he went with the "it grazed my sleeve" approach, he would have had a chance.
You gotta love the self-confidence he has in his ability to hit the ball.

It seems that Lackey is trying to have another blow-up inning, but his defense won't let him.

Not really. That is AGon's 17th this season.
Maybe he stole some of Papi's eye drops before he left town?

Request denied.
This year, at least, it's all about the 'home grown' starters (Lester, Buchholz, maybe even Doubront).

Not a very effective outing from a pitcher you would think could at least keep them in the game.

That line was uttered by a young Kevin Bacon, as I recall.

Cameron is ejected on a good called strike three. Lol.
Then Tito gets the boot. It's been a while since I've seen him that steamed!
Just not the Sox's day, I guess.

They should just let Matsuzaka throw 150 pitches tomorrow, like he used to do in Seibu.
WTF ... it's going to be a week between starts for him anyway ... just like in Seibu.

You beat me too it. I was going to say, "you mean keep him in all the way to the third inning?"
The number of walks Cliff Lee has given up all season is about as many as Dice-K gives up per inning.

I am really beginning to think that the Sox will not survive until the starters get back. I think this is a bridge season. I'm just not sure where the bridge goes to.

I am really beginning to think that the Sox will not survive until the starters get back. I think this is a bridge season. I'm just not sure where the bridge goes to.They need to tread water until the end of July. Next week they play Texas at Fenway. A split by the Sox should allow them to tread water (possibly even gain ground on the Yankees or Rays) as they will be playing each other. In the following week, the Sox go to Oakland and Seattle. The Yankees will be at home against Anaheim and KC. In the final week of July, the Sox will face the Angels on the road and the Tigers at home. The Yankees will face Cleveland and Tampa on the road. The Rays have a very easy schedule in the middle week facing Cleveland and Baltimore. Because the Yankees and Rays will be playing each other 6 times in the next 2 1/2 weeks, I am not overly pessimistic that the Sox can stay close until Vmart, Beckett, and Ellsbury get back at the end of July.
