The Red Sox expect to activate Jacoby Ellsbury Saturday, and insert him back into the outfield and atop the order to give their team a flashy, speedy look it hasn’t had in some time.

The Red Sox have missed the presence of Ellsbury, a speedy defender and the major-league stolen base leader last season. Without him, the Sox have not troubled opponents on the basepaths — they rank last in the majors in stolen bases.

The plan is for outfielder Mike Cameron, who has been out with an abdominal tear, to remain in Portland and play in a Friday-night game.
