How often does one feel optimistic following a series sweep by the Yankees? Well, *this guy* does.

Lester's ok
Most of the core key-contributors appear healthy
Buchholz is coming together at the right time

To me though, the biggest and most important element is the resurrection of Dice-K. Dude is KEY to any kind of playoff success.

The big question mark for me remains Beckett but I think he'll be ok. Not expecting 2007 but I'm also not expecting him to give up 5 HR's either. We'll have to wait and see on that one.

What are your thoughts about this team as we move into October?

I agree the rising son of DiceK is a very pleasant offering to Buddha

but I think Beckett will be himself starting tonight against the Jays and continue into the playoffs

my fear is Lester screws with his mechanics with the ouchie on the thigh/knee but I trust Farrel to know him

optimistic? hell yeah the series meant nothing going in...once the Wake loss in KC happened I just wanted then to get in and figure it all out over the rest of the season- screw 1st place, screw proving a point but just align the stars for California Angels

I'm just glad the MFYs got all their defeating-the-red-sox out of their system now, instead of in the playoffs.

I have a weird superstition about wanting to lose after you clinch your playoff spot, because you can't win 'em all, so go ahead and lose the last week of the season and win the playoff games instead. I know it doesn't make sense, but yeah. After we clinch I probably won't be watching until the ALDS.

Yeah. As much as I like the track record against the Angels, I'm not getting too hyped up. Those were all very good clubs that the Sox knocked off. And I believe this year's Angels team boasts a significantly upgraded offense so one dud by the Sox starting staff changes the outlook of this series quite a bit.
