I would have given the inside track to Ron Washington until the Rangers went in the tank ... comme d'habitude.

Ron Washington is your manager of the year in the AL, Jim Tracy in the NL.

You heard it here first.

HOLLA!

My vote goes to Ron Gardenhire. There is absolutely no reason this team should be 79-73, 3 games back. Absolutely none. Even with Mauer and Morneau they'd be overachieving at 69-83. Their pitching staff is AA-caliber.

[National media]
Joe Girardi took a team that didnt even make the playoffs last season and lost 2/5 of their starting rotation, integrated new players at multiple positions, endured the lengthy absence of his best position player, worked around the elderly corner OFers he had left over from last season, and somehow someway managed this team to the best record in baseball. Oh and did it all while under the glaring scrutiny of the most passionate fanbase in all sports. Joe Girardi is your 2009 AL Manager of the Year.

Joe Girardi was the manager of an 89-win team last year (that was widely regarded to have under-achieved) and presented with the following gifts by his GM this off-season:

An ace pitcher
A legit #2/3 starter
An MVP-contending, gold-glove first baseman

IMO, and I'd be shocked if it's not the same opinion as the bulk of the national media as well, the Yankees are simply doing what they should be doing.

Manager of the Year awards typically go to those "little engine that could" teams. And when it does go to a manager of a legit contender, typically that team was dog shit the year before. The Yankees weren't dog-shit last year, they just under-achieved.

I award Joe Girardi NO Manager of The Year Points... and may God have mercy on his soul.

I actually voted for Girardi. Not because I like him, or because I want him to win, but because he will win ... due to that National Media thing.

Poor guy ... look at all the adversity he had to overcome. After all, he lost Carl Pavano and had to make due with CC Sabathia. He also lost Jason Giambi and had to forge ahead with Mark Teixeira. Give Girardi some credit for coming through when the chips were down.

Unless they give it to Francona, I hope you are right.

However, I think Washington is going to get screwed by the "we've seen this movie before" sentiment that is bound to come up in the voters' minds.

While I was 100% convinced this was Ron Washington's award when I woke up yesterday, considering that the one-game playoff is *technically* a regular season game, I can't see anyway Ron Gardenhire doesn't win this in a landslide.

Shoulda made a sports bet out of this ... not Girardi vs. Gardenhire, but who wins the Manager of the Year award.

Sorry, but Gardenhire was robbed. It's impossible to argue that anyone did more with less this year.
