View Full Version : Am I an odd duck for.........
thinking to not toss in the towel about JPB
I know this is game 4 where he has not been well what we have been spoiled in having, when we see Josh dominate like only he can
He straightened out a few innings into the game but the damage had started
( and finished off and wont go into the odd decision making that went on near the end of the game, for which I have no club house knowledge so wont coment)
But am I odd in thinking he can still be okay and our Josh?
For I do.
But then i am the one who likes JD and was happy Alice went to NY instead of with us

the hope is he corrected himself during the game mechanically and will return to the effective Josh
I guess August is a pretty shitty month for josh, maybe he forgot to change his calender?
Ok who is willing to go over to his home and change the calender in his house his phone his laptop his pda heck the clubhouse?
Ill pack a lunch and ride with ya

Most all players, even the best ones go through slumps. Remember how awful Lester was at the beginning of the season? Only thing I'm worried about is fatigue given the timing. Maybe they should give him an extra day or 2 off.

You're an odd duck for actually using the phrase "odd duck" in public.

Without vintage Josh, the Red Sox have ZERO chance at beating the MFY in the playoffs. What choice do we have?

But then again I am fairly loyal to most Red Sox players not named Carl Everett.

Wasn't he the one that broke up a Yankee pitcher's no-hitter in the bottom of the ninth? If so, that alone justified his existence at Fenway.

No, that was Superman or somebody, I don't really remember. Carl Everett did nothing good ever...
...dammit with your good point about Carl Everett, making me almost respect the guy

I just feel sorry for Carl Everett. He was a guy who was supremely talented, whose temper and big mouth derailed him at every opportunity, and will only be remembered for not believing in dinosaurs.

Apart from the dinosaurs, you could be talking about any of a number of players in a number of sports.
Milton Bradley comes to mind.
So does Terrell Owens. Or even Sean Avery, although I don't believe he is supremely talented.

I always wonder if these 'problem child' types really have undiagnosed Bipolar Disorder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bipolar_disorder), but having undiagnosed anything seems unlikely given the fact that most professional sports teams have their own medical staffs ,,, which I bet includes at least one shrink.
That Wikipedia page I linked to talks about occurrence rates in terms of single percentage points, but even if it's one percent, in a league with 1200 roster spots (30 teams times 40 players per active roster), that's a dozen players.
Or maybe, they're just hotheads.

I think this is a valid point, and i believe that the culture of "macho" that is prevolent in pro sports keeps alot of people qith treatable mental issues to go untreated.

I would like to believe that these guys are being treated, and that we're just not hearing about it because of that macho culture ... and of course, medical privacy laws.
In which case, it's difficult to gauge how much personal responsibility should be assigned to those who suffer with these problems. On one hand, their condition is really not their fault. On the other hand, if they know they have a problem, but don't do everything in their power to control it (stop drinking, take your meds, learn to walk away from confrontation or other situations that can trigger 'incidents') ... then that's on them.

That is honest-to-god the only thing I remember him for. And breaking up the no-no, since I was just reminded.
Along with dinosaurs, he had one other bat-shiat crazy idea, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was... anyone remember?
EDIT: That's right, we never landed on the moon. Thanks, wikipedia.

Hi... haven't posted here much, but...
:soapbox:
I honestly can't stand Beckett.
I know, I should always be thankful for his 2007 season and the W.S. and I am thankful. BUT...
the guy is not a consistent ace. Just my opinion.
I know he'll show up next year of course -- cough, Contract, cough
