When Jed Lowrie's left wrist knocked him out of action again last night, he drew from it both frustration and, oddly, encouragement. Batting lefthanded, Lowrie checked his swing in the first inning and a sharp pain shot through his surgically repaired and chronically irriating left wrist. Lowrie's trying comeback had struck another road bump. But it also gave him a crucial piece of information.
Looks like AGon is the SS for the remainder. I just dont see how Lowrie can be counted on to contribute anything at this point in 2009.

I just hope they're not counting on him being the everyday SS, ever. Good to keep around in the future for a utility guy though

It is just inflamation of the tissue in his wrist, post op, that pinches the nerves. What he needs is a couple of months without wrist activity. As for whether he will be our regular shortstop, defensively he posts great UZR numbers, committed no errors at shorstop last year or this, and is very steady. As for hitting, when his wrist was strong this spring, his average was over .400, he led the grapefruit league in a couple of offensive categories, and then the bone separated and started floating around causing pain and eventual surgery. The rest of his career in Boston, at least offensively, has been hampered by the wrist problem which should go away with two months rest. What more do we want????

They should start calling him Jed "Setback" Lowrie.

A SS with at least adequate power, adequate speed, and can stay healthy. I like the kid, he's a solid ballplayer, but not a guy I see as the SS for future years.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
