I know we haven't even started the 2007 season yet but I'm already on the "Sign Ichiro" campaign. He's a top (if not, the best) RF'r in the game. Shift Drew to CF and trade Crisp if necessary.

Wouldn't it be nice?
An interesting tidbit from the Globe's Gordon Edes: Here's how speculation gets started -- Daisuke Matsuzaka asked for and received a uniform from Ichiro Suzuki, with whom he became good friends during the World Baseball Classic last season. The two had dinner before Sox camp opened. With Ichiro a prospective free agent after the season, you're going to hear talk about Boston being a possible destination.

I'm sure the Sox brass are looking into it...but for the moment, I'm going to give J.D., Coco and Pena the benefit of the doubt. I don't want them to start a revolving door in the outfield. The 5 SS in 4 years has got me a little ticked.

Well, SS is only one position whereas the OF is 3. Turnover for 3 different positions is common. For a long period of time the Red Sox had fixtures in the OF (Manny, Damon and Nixon) and had a revolving door for their 4th OF (Jay Payton, Kevin Millar, Gabe Kapler etc) which isn't unheard of.
And I agree that some of these guys deserve a chance, like Crisp, but if you can land a dynamic player like Ichiro who would change the scope of the offense at the top of the order with his abilities and match his superb OF skills with a tough RF in Fenway--I think you have to consider it at the expense of high tunrover. Crisp is young and cost-controlled and if he has a decent year would be a valuable chip to trade. I also should have mentioned that Crisp is not the only OF who could be traded. Manny draws interest every off-season, seemingly without equal value being offered in return.
Plus, we've given Pena the benefit already haven't we?
