Remy speaks about battle with depression (http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/red_sox/index.php/2009/08/12/remy-speaks-about-battle-with-depression/)
NESN analyst Jerry Remy revealed that his battle with depression has kept him out of the broadcast booth this season. He made his first appearance at Fenway Park this afternoon and came forth with the real reason behind his absence. He has battled cancer this year, but that was not why he could not come to the ballpark.
“Physically, I feel fine but the other part, that’s been tough to deal with,” he said. “There’s been a lot of trial and error.”
Remy, who may join the NESN crew briefly during tonight’s broadcast, joked that “I’m just going to tell everyone the reason I’m depressed is I have to listen to (Don) Orsillo.”
He said he has not been able to watch NESN broadcasts because he has felt guilty for not being there.
“I’m not ashamed of anything — people deal with cancer all the time, people deal with depression all the time, too. I’m not embarrassed.”
