I hope Manny's mom is ok but February always ends up being a busy month for the Red Sox. Seriously, it always ends up being either someones b-day or somebody is sick.

Manny's mother is always "sick" this time of year.

As long as he's in the lineup Opening Day, I really couldn't care less when he shows up.

Exactly. If it wasn't his mother being sick, it would just be some excuse to show up late.

I suppose I should be used to his antics by now, but I'm not. Every time he slacks or acts like a prima donna it pisses me off.

Does anyone else think it's funny that friggin Julian Tavarez is Manny's "go to" PR guy in this whole saga?

Sorry to go offtopic a little here, but this is EXACTLY what I had envisioned with the NewsBot. It serves as a topic starter that can generate conversations. It looks like the feed we are using now is not overkill either.

I agree, and I have nothing against the bot, but in about a month or so, there will be plenty to talk about as the traffic should escalate - as you probably already know.

I think it is funny that Tavarez is even at camp. After he made himself marketable after a few good starts at the end of last season, we should have moved him.

What about when he hits a HR though? It is what it is (to borrow a Bilicheckism). The guy is gonna hit 35-45 HR's and drive in 130 Runs like he does just about every year. His antics bother me but I try not to let it resonate for too long. We are witnessing one of the greatest right-handed hitter's in history (easily top 5) and we complain because the guy is quirky.

Everyone's entitled of course, just trying to drum up conversation in general.

The Manny saga really doesn't bother me all that much. I know it's part of the deal going in, and I know that he is going to produce offensively, even when he does get out of the gates slow.

I think the media contributes to that more than most (rational) fans tend to care. People that call WEEI and their talking heads that keep bringing up Manny being Manny still fuel the fire. The Globe, the Herald, local news stations, and NESN keep it alive. It's a topic that never goes away. I blame the media because the Red Sox coverage is unprecedented, and this is the #1 hot button issue with the Red Sox at present.

It doesn't piss me off that Manny will be late to camp.... again. But using his Mom as an excuse has gotten old.

One thing is for sure... He had better not mail it in at any point during this season. Now, THAT is getting old.

Also, am I the only one that wishes Julian Tavarez was NOT on the Red Sox roster in any way, shape or form. He just strikes me as a real dick head and it seems to me that he's already starting trouble by opening his mouth on the Manny piece.

I agree wholeheartedly with this post. I work in a manufacturing facility, and one of my responsibilties is allocating manpower day to day. I dont care if the guys on my shift show up for their 7:30 shift at 7:00 or 7:28, as long as they are there, and do their jobs. Same with Manny. If he shows up late for ST, and then goes out and has a subpar year, then we'll talk about it. If he goes out and has a typical Mannyesque year, then this is a non story.

I don't like the things that Manny pulls but at the same time I want him in the lineup. Manny and David are an amazing duo and the offense needs him.
