"Penny's control was pretty good, and I thought it was on purpose," Girardi said Friday.Maybe if this mental gidget spent more time worrying about his team instead of accuses the sox of sign stealing from first base, from centerfield and of hitting people he wouldn't be 0-8 against them. Oh and by the way, I think the HBP numbers so far a 9-3 Yankees.

I liked Penny much more when I thought to myself "maybe he DID do it on purpose..."

He's just making excuses and reaching for straws.

Girardi is not a big-time manager. He can't cut it in NY, IMO. When they miss the playoffs again this year, I think he gets fired.

If they miss, I bet Cashman gets the axe too. Having such an awful bullpen with that payroll is inexcusable. If they had signed a few veteran relievers and the didn't perform thats one thing, but they went in relying on garbage. I mean Brian Bruney was supposed to be their primary set up, and while he's a decent pitcher, he's hardly reliable.

I agree. It seems like since they were burned by Farnsworth, Marte, and to a lesser extent Dotel, they've abandoned the veteran BP approach and decided to build their BP from within, with lots of AAAA guys. I don't get it, but I don't get a lot of what they do anymore. (Case in Point - why not leave Hughes in the rotation and let him adjust to the majors as a starter, since they need him to develop into a very good starter.)

Yup, I mean with the unpredictability of relievers year to year it makes sense to supplement with AAAA-fringe players, but relying on them makes no sense

Girardi won't be the manager the next time the teams meet in August. Bullpen aside, he makes several questionable moves a week that become fodder for the NY media.
He just ain't good.

He had big shoes to fill and he has definitely made some questionable moves. But where is Brian Cashman's culpability in this?

Cashman wanted Joba to stay in the pen at the start of the season. If Bruney and Marte do not get hurt, in conjunction with Chamberlin....not a bad pen.
Cashman does not have alot of say over the decisions over there. It is undoubtedly a committe approach. :yay2:

One could argue that in the recent past he has spent over 200 million and gave Girardi THAT bullpen, while in the long past, he has failed to properly develop the right mix of players, instead favoring the 'All Star at every position approach' which has yet to reveal success.

I'm calling a bench clearing brawl next series. The Yanks are really trying for the title of 'Greatest Faked Team Chemistry Ever' and Joba really likes throwing at Boston batters.
The next series will come to blows as the Yanks will throw at another batter.
The good news is that we will get to see the Yanks have their asses handed to them twice in one game. The second time will be on the scoreboard and the first beating will be around the 1st or 2nd inning when they throw at Youk or Bay.

Penny responds to Joe's complaints about hitting ARod.
Brad Penny responded with a verbal brushback to Yankees manager Joe Girardi’s assertion that Penny intentionally hit Alex Rodriguez with a pitch, saying Girardi should worry about doing his job and not about how Penny pitches. “I don’t give two f---- what Joe Girardi says,” Penny said. “I’m coming inside. I don’t care. Anybody can say that. We can say that about the time they hit our guys. I’m just trying to pitch inside. Maybe he should worry about managing and not trying to be the commissioner.

Where do you all put the percentage that Girardi did steriods to stay in the Major Leagues?

Better question; who would I believe probably took steroids, Joe Girardi (a lean, small framed player playing a position that wears the body down during the apex of the steroid use) or David Ortiz (a heavy set, big boned player that DHed 95% of his career)?
I'm going to say the lean, small frame player that played a demanding position for 15 years, in what would be known as the steroid era, would be a more likely a PED user.

Honestly it is hard to guess the likelihood of who did or didn't use PED's. But, it wouldn't surprise me if anyone did at some point in their career.
