Only in South carolina folks:
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - On Interstate 26 over the Saluda River Bridge, eyewitnesses watched a man get out of his truck and jump into the river.
Law enforcement officials from Richland and Lexington counties were immediately called in to help rescue Lyle Silkwood.
When authorities arrived, they ran Silkwood's license plate for information. They called his home, and he actually picked up the phone. It turns out he ran out of gas on the side of the interstate, noticed a friend's boat passing by and jumped in the river to catch the boat.
Lyle's brother, Jesse Silkwood, said there's a good lesson that can be learned from this incident.
"If you run out of gas, stay where you are at, or flag something. Don't jump off a bridge," said Jesse.
Lyle was not charged with anything but did get a stern talking to by authorities and a check up at the hospital.
In case you were wondering, his brother put some gas in the truck and took it home
