A's have the better pitching. If they can muster any offense at all, they should get there.

If Atkins or Stewart can step up that Rockies lineup will be sooo much better, cant believe how far atkins has fallen

The AL West is hopeless. If the A's can do anything at all they should be able to get to .500. That is of course if Beane doesn't decide to sell the farm.

thats the problem......Once he sells off Holliday he will just go into full fledge yard sale mode
The AL West is a disgrace this year.......If ANY of their younger pitching came through they could have taken the division
You have to laugh at the Mariners though.......they swept their final series last year (against the As) and that gave them a better record than the Nationals. If they had only lost that series THEY would have drafted Strasberg.......its not like people didnt know this guy was going to be the #1 pick then. Thats like saying that people dont already know about Bryce Harper
Hell I wouldnt put it past Billy Beane to have instructed the manager to LOSE those games so this way he didnt have to have Strasberg in his division......Beane is that smart

Strassberg's arm will fall off before he earns any meaningful percentage of whatever overly huge contract he signs.

Mechanics are fixable if the Nationals are smart enough to pick up on it and have him fix it. Comparison to Prior is not necessarily fair in that when Prior came into the league his mechanics were considered near perfect (by scouts and Baseball Prospectus experts). The argument can be made that it was pitcher abuse that did him in as opposed to a mechanical flaw.

Dusty Baker didnt help, but there is a growing body of evidence that an Inverted W delivery like Prior's and Strassburg's puts much more stress on a pitchers arm. Heck even Buster Olney was talking about it on the Draft live stream the other day :)

True but I'd hardly call it a death sentence for him at this point.
Young pitchers hurt their arms most frequently, I'm not sure we're ever going to be able to accurately say who and when so it really comes down to having a solid plan for controlling innings/pitch count. That is the factor that can be controlled most easily.

Not a death sentence no, but it certainly would concern me if i was about to give him a 50 million dollar contract.

True, but then again giving any young pitcher who hasn't thrown a professional pitch is pretty concerning!

It would be fantastic is the Nationals gave Boras the finger and walked away from the deal.
