Well, at least we get to see McCutcheon (The new McAwesome?)

Don't know anything about the guys we got in return. My man on the Pirates post game show (probably the best baseball commentator I've ever heard) likes the deal, pointing out that McClouth wasn't really an elite player and in our desperation we Bucco fans have overreacted to his great year last year, but I don't know if I can get excited about a guy named Gorkys.

And he wants to pitch for the Red Sox :(

The Red Sox are “close to the top, if not at the top” of the list of teams just released veteran Tom Glavine would pitch for, according to a source close to Glavine. The 43-year-old Billerica native was released by the Braves yesterday as he was getting close to concluding a rehab stint for Atlanta.

Sign him up. It can never hurt to have one more battle tested veteran laying around.

There is no way on God's Green Earth that SD trades Gonzales for Penny and DiceK. None.

The only way Gonzales is traded to anyone is as part of getting rid of Jake Peavy's contract (assuming whichever team is making the deal can convince Peavy to waive his no trade clause). Peavy + Gonzales for Buchholz/Bowden and a couple B prospects. And even then i doubt he gets traded.

Andrew McCutchen Update:

He is awesome. Batting .333, ridiculous speed, 5 triples already in 17 major league games.
He could use a little more patience at the plate, but that will come with time. Should also develop into a spectacular defensive player.

In a couple years, when Pedro Alvarez comes up, and maybe Jose Tabata, and McCutchen has a few years under his belt, and either Maholm or Duke continue to be solid pitchers and Brad Lincoln is up here, that will be the core of a good team.

Gotta figure that half the Bucs' infielders are now on the trading block (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090719&content_id=5938842&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb).

We should trade MDC for Sanchez, then in a couple weeks, trade Sanchez and some other guy back to the Pirates for MDC.

Too late ... Lugo's already been DFA'd.

What would it take to re-acquire Mike Gonzalez and Brandon Lyon and trade them to Pittsburgh for Freddy Sanchez?

I believe the only two players the Pirates ever want from us are Gonzalez and Lyon so we could be F'd here.
