View Full Version : Should Eck have talked (incessently) about the no-no last night?

I don't takl about them but i try to intimate the fact to my wife about whats going on. My friends and I have a code about what to say and how to say it.
During Nomo's no-no I came over my friends house (5 guys renting a party house) and asked one of them how Nomo was looking and he replied "kinda choppy". A little while later I looked at the TV and notice he's pitching a no hitter and I go..."WTF you mean choppy?!?! he hasn't allowed a hit!"
So ever since then, when someone is pitching a no-no we say or texted, "fill in the blank looks choppy".
Last night though Eck wouldn't shut his pie hole up about it. Remy doesn't do that and has a subtle way of saying it for instance "through five innings and no baserunners" or "faced the minimum amount of batter through 6" or something to that effect.
What do you guys do/think

I stayed off the internet and sox planet because I was afraid to break the mojo...so Eck needed to shut up

I'm not a superstitious man, but ballplayers are. Out of respect for the neurotic, obsessive-compulsive guys that play this game, I'll follow the code. Maybe I'll call my buddy during a break in the action and ask him if he's "noticed the box score".
Eck was getting on my nerves talking about it every 3 seconds. Remy would have slapped him upside the head if he was in the booth.

I remember my husband came home late during Nomo's no-no. I was watching the game and he grabbed the clicker and changed the channel. I yelled at him that I was watching that.
He looked at me and said, "Why do you need to watch? It's pretty much over. The other team doesn't even have a hit."
Now you all understand why I need a Sox message board. He doesn't understand baseball at all.
And no, I would never talk about a no-no in progress -- unless it was another team throwing one and I was trying to jinx it.

I go back and forth on this with broadcasters.
Ideally I'd like them not to talk about it. However, I tell you that last night I intended to hang with the wife and maybe watch a movie. I had been flipping back-and-forth catching the score through about the 5th inning. I had no idea what was going on until the botched bunt attempt and Eck uttered the word "no-no." After that, I tuned in exclusively to the Red Sox.
So from an broadcaster's perspective, it behooves them to talk about it periodically to retain viewers/listeners. I don't necessarily have a problem with this because the media is *supposed to be* unbiased (even though they never are).
But of course we want to assign blame when Beckett misses his spot and leaves a fat one over the plate.

But I should note, some chick I know updated her status on FB that Beckett was throwing a no-hitter and if I could've gone through the PC at her, I would've :)

After Lester's no-no I heard that they weren't supposed to say the words (no hitter, no-no etc.). If that's the case someone should have told Eck. He's new at this.

Eck was a major league pitcher. He knows the drill. Don't talk to the pitcher. Don't change your seat on the bench. And don't mention what is happening.

he defended himself today saying he used the no-no 1st when Liard tried to bunt on Josh

And honestly, after he said it, he was kind of like "oh shit." I am actually surprised he didn't say "oh shit."

I am probably in a minority here but I wish that Eck would go back to the studio. I have heard enough of him on game broadcasts to last me a lifetime. My vision of hell would be to constantly watch Red Sox/Yankees with Morgan and Eck doing the broadcast.

Me too. I've had enough cheese, paint and gas.
