Let's do the math....

He's come up 175 times, with 33 hits, 13 doubles, 1 homer, in 46 games played.

Lets give him 4 official atbats for each the rest of the Sox games. They have 102 games left, counting today's. So that's 408 at bats to go (583 total). And I'll give him 15 more homers, and 30 more doubles

If he bats ..300 the rest of the way, he'd end up at .271, with 16 homers, and 46 doubles. His slugging average over the final 408 atbats would be (throw in another triple for good measure) .488; his season total would be .434.

Anyway, if he has a decent rest of the season, his season stats would look like this:

.271
16 homers
43 doubles
2 triples
.434 slugging

Would the Sox still have to trade for a new DH? I don't think so.

It would be encouraging and point to the reasons we'd all hoped were causing this:

Lingering affects of injuries
Screwy mechanics as a result of those injuries

It would be a sign that he may not be finished being "Big Papi."

I'll take .201, 3 dingers and 5 doubles the rest of the way at this point. But that is wishful thinking.

Well, he's not hitting .271, but he has hit 24 homers. What is his slugging average now, about .440? (.447, all-told). Who would have thunk it.....

I wonder what his slugging average has been since my last post? (5/31/2009).

I'll have to check it out.

Since 5/31/09: He's batted official times. Over those 319 AB's, he's had 82 hits: 23 homers, 19 doubles, 1 triple, and 39 singles. Thats 172 total bases in 319 AB's. That works out to a slugging average of .539! That's damned good. That's probably one of the best slugging averages in the major leagues since May 31st. Just saying.

The salvage/reclamation of Papi since he went to the "Eye Doctor" (Wink wink, nudge nudge) had been nothing short of miraculous. I am glad to see that he wont crash and burn.

I am saddened by the whole Big Papi experience this season, too bad he gets named, even worse the time he took to fabricate a defense with the Players Association that basically doesn't clear him but states the obvious that 8 players were clean and it is a possibility that Papi is one of those but we will not say that because of legal BS

screw that if it my name and MLB accuses me of this and I am clean I come out shooting at those MFer's - Papi didn't and please do not tell me the chance of being taken to court for talking as a reason

he didn't show me enough passion in his excuse but looked more like a kids stammering to make up a lie

now all that said I am glad the "eye" doctor figured out the right cream or clear drops or what ever it was to make him better

I know. My thoughts exactly. I always put him on a bit of a pedestal. And I'm not happy he won't go a bit crazier defending himself. Well, he did say he did some 'things' when he was younger. Anyway, I almost can't believe, if my math is right, that he has been slugging well over .500 since the end of May (especially with that batting average). Nice comback by Ortiz.
