5 years $70 million and it all about issues with a bad shoulder that has had surgery on it, is starting to get arthritic and has had holes drilled into the bone to promote cartilage growth
in a way I already miss Trot - he was a cheaper DL option

Nah Mikie, this is a good thing. Not only is Drew going to hit a ton (provided he stays healthy), but he's the best defensive RFer the Sox have had since Brunansky, and possibly Dewey.
Trust me man, this is a good signing.:icon_supe

trust me I know it is but I am afraid Drew never gets a chance here - it appears many of the knowitalls on WEEI are already running him out of town.
I hope he becomes that 5 tool star
question is will Crisp or Lugo lead off and will the other hit second. my thought is if the fear of them running gets Ortiz a few more mistakes to hit that would be a good think - then again would Crisp be better at #9 with youk at #2 taking pitches to tire out the other teams staff
decisions that are good to have make

The Sox are looking good. Just one more huge hole to fill though. Time to find a closer.

Lugo has always hit lead off. I'd bat him lead off, with Youk hitting second.
The lineup SHOULD look like this (I'll post this on UOTM as well, as we're all pretty sure Tito reads that board)
1- Lugo
2- Youk
3- Papi
4- Manny
5- Drew
6- Lowell
7- Tek
8- Pedroia
9- Crisp
bat Coco 9th because it flips the lineup real well, giving the Sox the potential to put a couple guys that can run on base ahead of Youk.
Oh, and **** those idiots on EEI. I don't live in the market anymore, so I get what they say second hand. They're clueless.

It is a HUGE upgrade in rightfield. The number 5 hitter killed the Sox last year. I remember seeing some numbers in the globe and I was shocked how bad the 5 hitter was. It is a lot of money but with the amount of money being thrown around this offseason, I would have to say it is worth it.

I think that if the rotation comes together solidly enough he will be. I don't see any reason to move him out of that role.

I am actually looking forward to seeing this season play out - one thing about Drew is comparisions to the Damon signing and money really can't be made - the sox have Lugo to lead off and need a No.5 hitter to protect Manny a bit, I expect a monster year from Manny and for him to start killing Lefties again this year all because Drew is behind him offering at least the threat of offensive production - last year No.5 was the black hole and no offense to the hitters placed there, they were not used properly
also Tek needs to rebound and I'm sure his ass problem was a big part of his drop

I'm just happy they got it done. The Red Sox already lost Trot so there was no going back.

I thought I heard on 'EEI, if by the 3rd yr Drew is on the DL then they can void the contract or it's easier for them to walk away from Drew or something like that. Which I think it's great.
But I do hope Drew stays healthy, play defense, and brings some offense to the team.
