Looks like once the buyout of the last two years of his contract is complete he will be a free agent and the C's will be one of many teams expressing an interest in his services.
:celtics:
An NBA source said that 17 teams, including the Celtics, have expressed interest in signing McDyess. While the Pistons are expected to re-sign the 14th-year power forward, 30 days must pass before he is eligible to sign with Detroit. Those close to McDyess know he desperately wants to win a title, which could improve the Celtics' hopes of stealing him away during the 30-day window.
The Celtics cannot comment on McDyess until he becomes a free agent. When asked about McDyess prior to last night's 101-89 win over the Bucks, Celtics coach Doc Rivers said, "I didn't even hear what you just said. But we're always looking."

The McDyess buy out is official. Once he clears waivers let's see if the Celtics make a play for him.

man if they land him I will be amazed...the only thing is Detroit needs to wait 30 days before they can resign him...A rule put in place I believe because of the Celtics trade with Detroit 2 or 3 years ago and the player (Hunter maybe) being cut and resigning with Detroit instantly

But he can sign with another team before the 30 day window, correct?

That would be awesome, what a compliment to Perkins he would be.

It would be nice but really a long shot. McDyess has already said he wants to go back to Detroit. Plus, the Celts wouldn't have the most money to offer either. I would say it is a remote chance that he ends up in Boston. Probably, when all said and done it will be Detroit.

Has anyone heard any talk of where he stands? Seems to be pretty quiet which gives some credence to the fact that maybe he is going back to Detroit.

Still no word. Probably means he is waiting it out and will re-sign with Detroit.

I just would think we would hear he is negotiating with some team by now...no? The fact that nothing is happening makes me guess that he is waiting out the 30 days so he can go back to Detroit. But, it is only a guess.

My point exactly. For some reason I always thought he would be heading back to the Pistons.

It is confirmed. McDyess is heading back to Detroit as expected.
free agent Antonio McDyess has decided to return back to the Detroit Pistons, according to his agent Andy Miller tonight. The Pistons traded McDyess, Chauncey Billups and Cheikh Samb to the Nuggets for Allen Iverson on Nov. 3.
McDyess never wanted to go back to the Nuggets for the third time and opted for a buyout of the final two years of his deal paying just over $6 million shortly after the trade. The Celtics were among 18 teams that were interested in the 2001 NBA All-Star and team president Danny Ainge made calls to Miller and McDyess. Indications from the beginning, however, were that McDyess would return to Detroit although he can't officially sign until Dec. 7.
