Jacoby has stopped running. Why? Afraid of being caught? Hurt? Slump? Afraid he'll disrupt Pedroia's at bats?

I don't get it. The guy was stealing bases like crazy and now he's come to an utter halt. Inquiring minds want to know.

It's because his OBP has plumetted 30-40 points in the last 2 months.

Yeah, he used to get on base all the time but now it seems like pitchers have figured him out. He's still young and learning...but if you're the lead-off guy you need to get on base somehow.

Thats why he shouldnt be leading off :)

Just for some perspective, Ellsbury's OBP is 20 points lower than Public Enemy #1, Julio Lugo.

They should drop him in the order and give him a break. He looks a little lost out there.

I agree, when he got on yesterday after Vlad's error, he didn't even try and steal. Had he gotten to 2nd, he would have scored on Dustin's single...2 run lead. It was frustrating to watch the AL leader in SB not even try to steal on a team that has given up 29 straight steal attempts.

I don't get it.

Who would you lead-off though? Coco and his whopping .300 OPB?

I guess it would be Pedroia but I hate to move him out of the 2-hole. I guess you'd have to and maybe plug Casey in at #2/DH.

Bingo. I know you can't steal first base, but he's not stealing when he gets the chance.

Weird.

Did they tell him to stop running because it screws up Pedroia's at bats? Seems like that's unlikely, but so is never running.

I can't see them moving Pedroia or doing anything that might disrupt the absolute TEAR he is on. But without a baserunner on ahead of him, his productivity is often times for naught. Why not bat Youk 1st? He's not fast, but Francona has to get Ellsbury out of the lead off spot for now.

I think this is the likely scenerio here. Might not see any shake-up until next week when Ortiz is back.
