the Sox kept Hanley Ramirez and Annibel Sanchez, never got Beckett and pitched Arroyo not getting Willie Mo brringing up Murphy
I think we still end up in 3rd place and have a bunch of cheap options to allow you the option of over paying for a better player than JD injureDrew
think about it, keep Loretta
SS Ramirez
2nd Loretta or Cora
DH Ortiz
LF Ramirez
RF Drew
C Varitek
3rd Lowell
1st Youkalis
CF Crisp until next offseason when money saved is better spent than Lugo
bench of Murphy, a catcher (Mirabelli), Cora (or Pedrioa if Cora starts),and a bat
sp
Shilling
Pap
Dice K
Arroyo
Wake/Sanchez
the money saved would allow you to sign/trade for a Closer
to go wiht Hanson, Delcarman, Timlin, and the other pick ups

While I think Beckett is going to have a huge year, I would take that whole trade back if I could.... What coulda been.... :(

Intresting........ But I recall him having some first inning trouble a lot last year.... Although I think his stuff is great to be a closer. He throws gas and doesn't have many off-speed pitches. I really don't think it will happen but it is fun to talk about.
I really have no clue who the closer is going to be and that is NOT GOOD......

I would still do the trade. It was just one year in the AL for Beckett. We will see if he has improved in his 2nd year.

Don't forget that Lowell came over in the Beckett deal. We'd have to keep Youk at 3B and get a halfway decent option at 1B. We also got Guillermo Mota who we shipped to Cleveland (along with Andy Marte and Kelly Shoppach) in the deal to get Crisp. We could have kept Marte and suffered through a year with him at 3B and have Youk at 1B. To further complicate this scenario - we shipped Bard to San Diego to get John Marzano....I mean Doug Mirabelli (is there a difference?) back.
This is kind of like a "Butterfly Effect" sequence. We should start a thread where we go back in time and change one move that was made (or not) and have each subsequent poster give an outcome.

Butterfly effect is an amazing thing to look at - heck picking up a part time player with little upside dumped by Minny really hurt didn't it - the guy was stuck behind little brother 'riod user Giambi and Kevin Millar before becoming Big Papi
