Well, who is it going to be?
Schilling-Go out with a bang?
Beckett-Come back strong?
Dice-K - The Great Unknown
Paplebon- Another unknown when it comes to starting
Wakes-He is what he is at this point
Other- Tavarez, Lester, Clemens?

Shilling will get the title based on time served but not sure if he will deserve it.
Great question
I need to ponder it a little longer - My hope is Paplebon becomes the No.1 guy

Yeah, I went with Schilling but I really hope it isn't him. I think he will be a good pitcher in 2006 but I don't think he is an ace on a championship team. He was in 2004 but he isn’t the same pitcher anymore. I hope one of the "Young 3" can step up and take the role.
On a positive note, I think this Pitching staff has more potential then any Sox staff I can remember. We could be in for a real treat in 2006 and years to come.

I agree, the farm system is starting to show some results (unfortunatly for other teams right now but we can sign them back later for big money)
I think the lower levels has a group of guys who show promise who will show up in 2008 and beyond
what happened to a pitcher going a couple seasons in the minors followed by time in the pen before becoming a starter - too much over thinking these days to protect these arms of many players who will never pan out

If by #1 starter you mean who will pitch Opening Day, then i cant believe (barring injury) that its anyone but Schilling. He's the Vet, and the classy thing to do is let him start Opening Day.
If by #1 starter you mean who will be the Sox best pitcher this year, (again barring injury) Im thinking Beckett comes back and has a good season. Just a gut feeling. Schilling is too old to be counted on to be that ace stud stopper that he once was. Wakefield never was that guy. Matsusaka will have to go through an adjustment period. To expect him to be that guy could be asking a bit much. Papelbon is probably the only other guy who could fill this role, but who knows how his injury/year of not starting will effect him.

You gotta go with Curt. It's exciting to think if Beckett improves from last year, Dice-K's potential, and Papelbon. On paper, it's a pretty good rotation.

Yes, that is what I mean.... Which makes it tough because who the F knows at this point. I think Schilling is the opening day starter, without a question

I am bumping for comments
who is the new number 1 - is it the same old Curt or a revived Josh or either of the Dice-K/Jonathon Paps?
I want it to be Papelbon but think Dice-K will confuse the hitters early in the year?
Beckett is a wild card and if is struggling come late june/early july trade him to the NL because he would then be a similar pitcher as Suppan only good in the NL

I think Papelbon is going to have a monster year. Shilling, Beckett and Dice-K are still question marks in my mind.

I'm still sticking with Curt but hope that Beckett, Dice-K, and Papelbon take over. Why not have them all #1 starters? That would be awesome.

I think schilling is going to have the best season, really hoping beckett becomes what i hoped he would be last year, if that makes any sense. Dice-k right now feels a lot about how i felt about beckett last year... looks like he has some really good stuff and being new could really have a great year. Wake is well Wake, Always have butterflies in my stomach when he pitches because when he's on and really confusing batters its really pretty to watch, but man when he gets owned... he really gets owned and that pretty sites turns ugly real quickly. Oh and on a side note, i think beckett should throw batting practice before games.. that way come the first inning maybe he wont get rocked. just my thoughts
