Yup, US Embassy in Lisbon set up shop on the island yesterday at a local theater so that both US Military from the airbase and US citizens living abroad (ie me) could register for an absentee ballot for this year's election.

What I find comical is that, because the last place I lived in the states was a 6-month stint (or is that stink) in Buffalo, I am still a registered voter for the state of New York.

Oh joy...:icon_hang

Hey, last time I voted in the US was in 2002, where I went all Libertarian, except for NY Governor, where I voted for Tom Gollisano.

Chances are, my vote will go Libertarian once again.

LOL! Just got an email from the Erie Country Board of Elections regarding my form. They just got it and are processing it, but came acorss one area:

...You listed your party preference as Libertarian; however, that is not a recognized political party in NY State. You are presently unaffiliated which means you are not enrolled in a political party and cannot vote in any Primary election, although you can vote in the General election(s) held in November of each year. The political parties you may enroll in are: Democratic, Republican, Independence, Conservative, Working Families or "I do not wish to enroll in a party" (this is considered Blank/Unaffiliated)...

Ok, so NY has no Libertarian party. And WTF is the difference between the Republicans and Conservatives? That one just threw me for a loop.

That got me curious enough to look it up:

not all republicans are conservatives just like not all democrats are liberals. some politicians are a mishi-mash. you have some social conservatives who like to spend, and you have some politicians who are liberals on social issues, but are also fiscal conservatives.

There are very few democrats left and liberals have turned into left wing nut jobs that hang off the nuts of Keith Olbermann like ornaments on a Christmas tree.

There are very few democrats left and liberals have turned into left wing nut jobs that hang off the nuts of Keith Olbermann like ornaments on a Christmas tree. There are 72 million registered Democrats in the United States. 55 million registered Republicans.

While I appreciate your hyperbole I don't think you really believe that 72 million Americans are "nut jobs".
