It came blasting out of the air at Fenway yesterday, but it wasn’t a wayward baseball that vrashed down on a visiting schoolgirl - it was an attacking hawk.

The hawks’ target?

A-Rod.

No, not the Evil Empire’s third baseman, Alex Rodriquez, but an eighth-grade girl from Memorial Boulevard Middle School in Bristol, Conn., who was on a field trip with classmates. Alexa Rodriguez, whose nickname is A-Rod, wasn’t seriously injured. Televised news reports this morning said the girl’s coach calls her “A-Rod.”

Alexa was taken to an area hospital and released, according to the Red Sox [team stats]. The hawk was apparently nesting and may have been protecting its egg, which was removed after the scary incident by the Boston Animal Rescue League under the direction of the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game.

“We are hoping that removing the egg will deter the hawk from nesting again in Fenway Park [map],” said Robert Keough, spokesman for the department.

Keough said it’s not possible to determine the exact reason for the attack. Keough also said that the egg was taken to Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton, where it was found not viable.

Several hawks have nested at Fenway Park in the past, but they usually tend to leave as baseball season nears, said Sox spokeswoman Susan Goodenow.

Fans won’t have to duck for birds, in other words.

“We are very excited about Opening Day. Our goal is to always make Fenway a safe and enjoyable place for all of our fans,” Goodenow said

I think A-Rod should pay her medical bills and maybe buy her a car and put her through college. Clearly, it was a case of mistaken identity and the hawk was after him.

For a second there I thought this thread was about that pitcher in the 70's with all those flashy leisure suits.

I thought he was a pitcher...

Still the story would have been funnier if the old man jumped out of the stands and smacked her one like the hawk did.

I expect the yankees,to send in a team of overpaid, endangered birdologists to claim this hawk was the 'endangered throble throated blueballed (yankees)steinbrenner hawk.
Only a few are in existence and as such, their habitate should be closed .

Sox will counter, bringing In experts to prove the yankee(hawks) have been dead since the new sox ownership.
Steinbrenner can go back to lining his pigeon cage with Damon's contract.

Well of course the hawk was confused. The young girl probably was carrying a handbag too!
