Personally, I've never owned a vehicle with more than 91,000 miles on it. How about you? Check this out if you already haven't. GRESHAM, Wis. - Frank Oresnik's trusty pickup truck — he calls it "the old girl" — passed the 1 million-mile mark with a camera crew filming the event and a public-radio audience listening in. "I can't tell you how much fun it was," he said. "It was really humbling, all this interest." Recent news stories told how Oresnik had just 1,200 miles to go before reaching the milestone in the 1991 Chevrolet Silverado that he bought with 41,000 miles on it in 1996 and used in his business, distributing seafood and steaks in the upper Midwest. At the time, he was getting his latest oil change — the kind of regular maintenance he credits with helping to keep the truck going so long. He said he's had the truck's oil changed more than 300 times. It's had so many changes that the oil pan drain plug had to be rethreaded several times, he said, and "you never hear of that." He passed the million-mile mark Friday in southeastern Wisconsin while on his way back home to Catawba, located in the north in Price County, about an hour west of Rhinelander. He was on County Highway V southeast of Fond du Lac. On hand was a film crew from Chevrolet's public relations and advertising company, and he was speaking live to Robert Siegel, host of National Public Radio's "All Things Considered." A news crew from CBS had been with him earlier in the day. "I wont say it was relief ... it was exhilarating," Oresnik said later during a stop in Gresham where he has one of his longtime customers. "This truck has been so dependable over the years." Now that it's made history, the truck could be headed back to the automaker or Shell Oil. Oresnik said there's been some interested in GM or Shell Oil buying it. ___

160,000 + miles on a 1988 toyota landcruiser, gave it to my Godson 6 years ago who sold it after 2 years and I saw it drive by me last month

My two current cars are both over the 100K mark.
1997 Honda Accord with 120,000
1996 Mazda Protoge with 105,000
I bet if I want to I could get another 100K out of the Honda. Honestly, I don't want to though. Just hanging on to them both because they're paid for and neither is giving me much cause for replacing them anytime soon.

I get skittish with driving something approaching 100,000 miles. Usually, when I begin having repeated trouble with a vehicle I trade it. Scheduled maintenance is easier to deal with than unscheduled.

My truck has a little over 69,000 (2001 GMC).
My work truck has a little over 74,500 (2003 Bow Tie).

I put about 100,000 miles on the landcruiser by changing the oil 3000-3500 miles, Brakes twice I think, 1 set of Tires, an alternator and finally a radiator/Water pump only because I gave it to my godson, anyone else would have had to get their own
depends on the car - 3 pt has the honda that will run forever, I know a few with over 200,000 miles on an Accord

I put about 135,000 on an Olds Cutlas Calais International before trading it in. The current Bravada has about 75k on it.

Am I the only person who is not religious about oil changes? I drive so many miles that even every 5000 I would be getting it done far too often that it would be a big hassle.
I've never been anal about oil changes and I have never had a problem because of it.

I'm religious about my oil changes. I only average 12,000 miles a year, so for me it isn't that big a deal to have one done every 3,000 miles. Plus, city driving is what's bad for a vehicle.
I wouldn't be so anal about it if I was on the road all the time, rackin' up the miles.

I like GM's oil life feature. I no longer bother with the 3000 thing. I wait for the "change oil" message to appear. I think I had it changed twice last year.

My ford product car has a nagger too, but I think it is just based on miles elapsed on the odo.

GM's is supposed to take driving habits into account along with temperature and length of time between changes and whatnot. I'm generally not a big fan of idiot lights, but I've found this one to be useful.

My fiance insists on changing the oil on my car (2007 Mazda 3) and he uses a synthetic, which means about 5,000 miles or so between changes. I did let it lapse quite a bit more than 5,000 once, but I never had a problem (*knock on wood*)

I had an '84 Oldmobile Cutlass (my 1st car) that when it finally died had 280,000 miles on it. That tank was an oil burner though as I always had to have a quart or 2 of oil in the trunk at all times. When changing the oil (I did it myself back then) it was like tar coming out when draining the old oil. LOL One time, it took over 10 minutes just to drain 5 quarts of oil.
I had a '90 Buick LeSabre that I ran into the ground at 169,000. The transmission went and it was cheaper just to get a new car.
I just got rid of my '97 Jetta back in August that had 210,000 miles on it. Best car I have ever had in terms of what I paid for it ($10,000 in 1998) handling, gas mileage, overall efficiency, and easy to maintain. I never had 1 MAJOR car repair during the 10 years I owned it, and I'll bet it's still on the road. I really miss that car.
I currently have an '02 Chrysler Sebring convertible that has 97,000 miles. It is well maintained and in perfect condition (body, engine, and up to date on all routine maintenance).
I currently have an '07 Honda accord with 21,000 miles on it. This car is the DEFINITELY the best car I have every owned in my life. It's great in the snow/ice, gets over 400 miles to a tank of gas, 5000 miles in between oil changes, and it's safe to car the little rug rat around. :)
I religiously change the oil every 3-4000 miles and take care of the tires and routine maintenance. I have had very good luck with cars because of this.

I had a rusty old Chevy S10 with 225,000 before I gave her away. She still runs as I see the truck hauling stuff around town now and then.

My '99 Saturn has around 110,000 on it, I think, but the car's starting to reach it's "everything needs to be replaced" point, so I think it's time for it to go.
Not changing your oil is bad news. At least if you plan on keeping the car past 50,000 miles. Up until then you probably won't notice a difference, but I feel bad for whoever gets that car after you. Oil heats up, breaks down, underlubricates, etc.,. It's not an area to skimp on. What is it, twenty bucks every three months or so? Not a big deal compared to engine repairs. JMO.

High 150,000s; ~158,000 and I still beat the ever living hell out of it. The engine compression and HP is still over 90% of original spec.
Oil change is highly recommended, and don't forget fuel filters, coolant flushes, etc. I get attached to my cars and intend to keep them for their life, like a pet.
Many companies now say that 5000-10000 mile oil changes are ok, but it's more pandering to convenience-minded folks that reality. It IS "ok", but the residual build-up and wear isn't worth it, particularly if you intend to keep it for an economically viable term or have a re-sale conscience.
Before this car, I had a similar one that I put <500 miles on before some 16-year-old (who had his license for less than two weeks) smashed into me and totaled...:crying: :shoot:
I honestly never thought I would see the day a GM product would hit a million miles.
Regular oil changes or not.

That's a tall order for anything. They should give the guy a brand new one of his choice, for the feat and the publicity.
Hey B*holes, the main board is back, come on over!!! It's spectacular!
