In the Dolphins' first major player purge since Parcells took charge of Miami's football operations, the team parted ways with [Trent] Green, wide receiver Marty Booker and seven other players Monday -- ushering in the start of what's expected to be a massive offseason roster shakeup by the rebuilding franchise.
[...]
Other notable cuts by the Dolphins included tackle L.J. Shelton and massive defensive tackle Keith Traylor, both of whom were starters.
Miami also waived tackle Anthony Alabi, defensive tackle Anthony Bryant, tackle Marion Dukes, defensive tackle Marquay Love and tackle Joe Toledo.

I'd love to have Green in Foxboro as the experienced backup guy who totes the clipboard and helps with the younger guys. I can't see too many other teams being all that interested in him, given his medical history. He'd have to come for short money though.

Thanks. The Tuna is going for it. Expect a run on interior linemen and DL's from them. He always builds from the lines, LB's out...

Any change Taylor wants a shot at the ring? Know he wont but damn if only dreams could come true...
pick up Joe Toledo but only so you can say "Holy Toledo" when he does something good on the field.
That was dumb. Pretend I didn't say that.

Can I ask a dumb question?
Why wait until after the Pro Bowl? Why not get started as soon as the regular season was done?
Or is it just a matter of going over the entire roster and it took them this long?

Jeez, I'd take any of those guys as backups.
Keep up the good work, Tuna! Get rid of Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor so the Pats can grab them, too! :D

the new year started on Feb 11, 2008 the day after the ProBowl
I kept hearing over the past week that cuts can start on Monday, the 11th, but the exact reason was never mentioned why that date

No thanks on Tractor Traylor. I think he is probably done.

Really? He looked like he still had some gas left in the tank to me. That said, I'm pretty sure he'll reitre a Phin.

I like Traylor but the d-line looks set to me...
I believe the cut date is after the Pro Bowl per the agreement. I don't think, (although highly unlikely), the NFLPA would want a member released from a team before he plays in the Pro Bowl.

Traylor might have little left in the tank, but if they switch to a 4-3 they can certainly use him as a backup DL if he's cheap. They can sub him in on those crucial downs where they just need a widebody to take up space.
