View Full Version : I would start Dice K over Schilling
The important thing to do is to remember that we must concentrate on winning game 6 for if not, there wont be a game 7.
My logic for starting DiceK over Schilling is that Schilling gives up a lot of fly balls, balls tht are home runs at Fenway, while Dice K manages to keep the ball down a little more, with more movement and if he is on, I believe he will get the job done more so that Schilling.
Sure, that leaves Schilling for game 7, but at least they would have gotten there, and hopefully the home field crowd will be the 10th man and be a factor in a game 7 win.
I just feel more comfortable with Dice K in game 6, at Fenway.

Schilling will figure it out and until he loses a do or die game for us all I see is that big guy on the side of the road in Arizona jumping in that Ford pick-up.
Schilling throws a GEM and its  for a game 7
Schill was a little too fine with his pitches as the game went on

I don't understand why the home crowd couldn't be a 10 man in Game 6 as well.

I wouldn't, but that is my personal choice based on the amount of commotion raised when Dice K pitched game 2 against the angels over Shill

I want Beckett to pitch both 6 and 7.
That said, I have more confidence in Schilling right now. I'd almost rather see Lester or Tavares in than DiceK

Schilling for game 6 is all set
then when we get to the bottom of the 4th inning of game 7 we have one of these

waiting on the bench in the dugout for DiceK :thumb:
Game 7 is going to be at Fenway too
Yeah, but you dont get to 7 if you dont win 6.
3 days of rain would be nice

Forecast for Saturday night:
Partly cloudy. Cooler with lows in the mid 40s. West winds 10 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 25 mph in the evening.
Schilling is a big-game pitcher, I have faith that he'll get it done.

I'd start Schilling over Dice-K in game 6 mainly because I think the most important thing for Dice-K now is rest and he last started a couple days after Schilling.
Also, if needed, we should have Beckett available for a couple innings out of the pen in game 7. Dice-K's bad inning is rarely the first or the 2nd, so if we make it to game 7, I'd have a short hook with Dice-K and then go to Beckett for a couple innings and then go to Timlin, Delcarmen, Oki and Paps to close it out.

Schilling is going to pitch a gem. A must win brings out the best in him. And I'd much rather he pitch against Carmona than Westbrook or Byrd. I don't trust Dice K at all. Schilling's also been a lot better at Fenway than Dice K

Yeah, but you dont get to 7 if you dont win 6.
You dont get to the World Series if you dont win both. Neither is more or less important. You say that youre more comfortable with Dice K in Game 6 because Schilling is a fly ball pitcher, and those fly balls would be home runs at Fenway. Wouldnt those fly balls be home runs in Game 7 too?
I think that neither pitcher so far has distinguished himself much at all this post season, surely not enough to say that one is a better option than the other. So, the best course of action, is to leave them in their slots, and not rock the boat. Dice K especially has proven this season to be a much better pitcher on his normal rest. Will he be able to handle the pressure of a Game 7 start? Maybe, maybe not. But Game 6 is where Clevelnd must make their stand. Their ace is pitching, and the momentum is starting to switch back to the RedSox. They can not afford for there to be a Game 7. So with neither Schilling or Dice K having been equally mediocre this post season, I'll take Schillings post season experience to start Game 6.

I think Schill is determined to win this game, and if he's on, then we'll be okay. I think we need to score alot of hits. Regardless what the "sport experts" have been saying about Carmona shutting us down the last game, he only lasted over 4 innings. I think we can get to him early and knock him out, that's where we want to be. Score early to give schilling confidence on the mound when he pitches. If we get to game 7, I think we're going to have to go to our bullpen early, because I don't think Dice-K has it in him (yet) to pitch in big games.
OK, I am convinced. You all made good points. Schilling, followed by Dice K on Sunday, will both be winners. Hope it doesn't snow.

shilling is playing for his baseball life, if he pitchs well and the Red Sox move on he will be loved and possibly rewarded with an extension/new contract with Boston. Curt is in the process of pulling a Frank Tanana and reinvent himself as a finesse pitcher not a power pitcher, I feel tonight is another step in that process.
I also feel IF the sox win it all, Shill may reconcider his retirement to go out on top. OR I would if I was him

My gut feeling tells me that Curt's going to leave regardless of what happens tonight. Either going to Tampa, retiring, or maybe even back to Arizona. If he leaves, Sox are going to have put something together to trade for a starter to fill his slot next season.

Lester, Buchholtz are ready to step in, But Curt wants to stay bad and if they offer him decent money with incentives he stays
curt is a history nut, tampa has none
I think Schilling will retire.
