I hope the Yankees hurry up and fire Torre so that we can hire him before the next game of the ALCS.

Starting Wakefield - brilliant move Terry. Yeah he pitched pretty good, but what a ridiculous gamble with so much on the line. I go with Beckett on 3 days rest in that situation and get the series back to 2-2 and take my chances. Now Beckett has to match up with CC who is probably due to have a great game. Heck, if not Beckett, starting Lester made more sense to me.

Starting Crisp: get him out of the lineup. Watching him bat is painful. It's like having a pitcher bat. Put Ellsbury in.

Manny and Ortiz are doing great. Where's the rest of the team?

Beckett was "injured" in game one with a stiff back and according to all the "know more than I do insiders" could not go last night and is in need of all the time he can get to rehab it

Channel 7 just reported that Torre REJECTED the 1-year offer the Yankees offered him.

Getting interesting.....

LOL. I wouldn't be surprised if Torre never had any intention of returning to the Yankees. He just let them make him an offer so that it would be clear to all that HE turned THEM down.

If the NY Post does not use this headline, they are crazy:

Torre to NYY: GFY!

I actually think that this was the Yankees plan all along. Much like Lou Gorman did with Wade Boggs, they make him an insulting offer and let him tell them to stick it. Then when their fan-base (which the majority of folks semingly wanted Torre retained) backlashes, they can claim that it was their intention to bring him back, they made him an offer, and it was Mr. Torre's choice not to come back. It's all spin.

my thoughts exactly. they didn't want torre back, but it's their loss. i don't think they'll be able to find another manager as good as torre was. the closest maybe larussa, but i don't think he'll be as good as a manager. me, i'm glad he turned them down, and then maybe a mass exodus by players loyal to torre. then the spankees will find themselves in rebuilding mode, especially if A-rod ops out of his contract. also, call me crazy, but something tells me that if alex does op out of his contract, the sox might aggressively go after him. wouldn't surprise me neither if they're still smoking whatever boras is giving them.

Yeah but it can't work that way because the 5m they offered was a giant paycut.

Now please, PLEASE let Mattingly take over the Yankees.

This guy has Stump Merrill written all over him.

Sweet, now let bring Torre in with a nice Red Sox uniform and give them the huge FU for all the players they got from us!!!! Hell its only money. If we can pay J.D. 70 mil as a ego boost for opposing pitchers why not spend even more to tell the Yankees how we truly feel about them

Torre isn't coming to Boston.

But seeing him manage the Mets would be fun. How many of those MFY fans would switch allegiances overnight? And the added bonus would include Rivera and Posada following him there.

I have nothing but total, utter respect for Joe Torre and the job he's done with the Yankees. But the truth is, he's really no better a field manager than Terry Francona. Much of his success is attributed solely to the talent levels that he's had sitting on his bench through his tenure. Again, I don't want to come off as discrediting the job he's done but (for example) I don't think he'd lead the Dodgers to anymore wins than Grady Little has with the same roster.

I'm enjoying what's going on in NY. I do think it was time for Torre to move on. He always looks like he's about to die in the dugout.

The Yankees didn't want him back but they didn't want to look like the bad guys so they offered him a contract that was easy to refuse. Now Torre looks like the bad guy.

I'm watching his press conference on ESPN right now. He is a class act. The 2004 thing has come up several times.

One reporter asked him if he'd be willing to come back for the new stadium dedication (if invited) to throw out a pitchg or whatever and he said, "I'm not prepared to comment on that at this time."
