View Full Version : Why the Red Sox Will Win the ALCS

Okay this is the first of two threads I'm starting today. I figure this one will be the shorter of the two...
1. Beckett goes in Game 5 on regular rest. We saw what Josh did against CC in Game 1.
2. Schilling goes in Game 6. You don't think that he's going to have another bad game. His post-season resumee speaks for itself.
3. The Sox have seen Carmona and Westbrook already in this series. They will make the necessary adjustments.
4. The offense can't bat at such a low level for long. They are showing signs of life. (i.e.- back-to-back-to-back HR's in Game 4).
5. Ellsbury has yet to make an impact on this series. Look for him to come up big as a pinch runner or in the lead off spot.
6. Keilty is playing for Drew in Game 5.
That's all I can think of right now. The Sox will win the next three games and face the Rox in the Series. GO SOX!
7.Come thursday night, what will the yankees and red sox both have in commen?

I guess nobody out there is optimistic about the Sox chances...But I figured I start this thread just to see if there are any other people who are looking at this through rose-colored glasses.

1st we win tonight with Beckett doing his thing
2nd Dr. Morgan comes back and sews a set of balls on Shill and he pitches like he did in 2004
3rd Beckett comes back after a rain out and we win

I am not confident but I am also not of the opinion that a comeback can't be mounted in this series. I just don't know how to motivate a struggling offense. Guys tend to bust out when they bust out. To get 4 guys to do it at once... Tough call.
I also am concerned with the prospects of if you bench a player or two. You definitely have to deal with Drew next season and unless they move him, CoCo and Lugo as well. Are you doing more long-term harm than good by doing so?
Also, this question is more rhetorical than anything else as we know that, despite the fact Kielty's starting in RF tonight, these guys are probably not all going to sit.

Sorry, fellas. I'm not gonna fault you for wishful thinking, but man. What happened to your bullpen? To win all three, you'll need them at some point, and I just don't see them coming through.

Actually its all about strategy. Win game one... show our strength. Schill as well as the rest of the crew play the roll of incompetence. Don't hit the ball, let the indians have their way with us... you know give the indian fans false hope... then come tomorrow Beckett pitches a no hitter complete game... meanwhile our bats give the indians a spanking that would make any fraternity pledge wince. After tomorrow the indians will be so shell shocked that even J.D. Drew will look good. We go the distance and don't go flat like the rockies will be come World Series time. OH YEAH!!!
p.s. Yeah i have an active imagination

I'm thinking positive. Beckett will win his start. The only problem is getting the offense to actually score some runs.
And then for Games 6 and 7 the starters have to pitch at least 7 innings because the only pitchers out of the bullpen I trust are Timlin, Okajima, and Paps.
And if everything goes right the Sox will win the series.

This theory reminds me a bit of the "theory" of the Fins strategy this season over in the Pats Planet temp forum. :)
