Ok, I'm missing something obvious here, but what's the tie-breaker in this. If Cleveland won and Sox lost tomorrow, both would be 96-66.

Sox won the season series against Cleveland 4-2. Even if the season series were tied with Cleveland, we have more runs scored and far fewer runs allowed.

In baseball, IMO, home field is not that much of an advantage as it is in football, basketball and hockey.
In fact, I would rather have a guy like Wakefield pitch in a bigger stadium, like in Anaheim, than at Fenway. Same for Schilling, too.
Just making the playoffs, even as a wild card in baseball, is just as good as winning your division.

You're right about Wakefield (particularly in domes) and I agree with you that home field is a bigger advantage in other sports, but it's definitely not valueless in baseball. The Sox, in general, are better at Fenway and the quicky dimensions of the park can throw opposing outfielders some times.
Plus, if we do play the MFY's in the ALCS, it would be so sweet to be able to eliminate them in Fenway this time.

I don't completely disagree but I think if any one team in baseball has an advantage playing at home, it's the RS. Especially against teams outside of the division.
Let's take Lackey for instance. One of the better pitchers in baseball and he has a 7.41 ERA there. That's over a 3 run difference from his career era.
Haha....check These Out Guys
Ive always though about this
