Well, Bonds did it. Oddly enough, I was watching my Buccos beat Arizona (no, that's not the only odd part about it) and I happened to turn over to ESPN right as the ball went over the fence. The same thing happened when he hit #755. Man, my luck sucks.
Anyway, I will always refer to this as Barry Bonds hitting his 756th home run, not breaking the record. As far as I'm concerned, Hank Aaron is still the legitimate home run king. You simply don't go from a skinny WR's body to a 3-4 defensive end's body in 1 year like Bonds did, without a little help from something unnatural.
And then there was the press conference afterwards. Bonds said alot of stuff that kind of went against his douchebag image, and I liked that. But one thing in particular caught my attention. When asked if the record was tainted, Bonds said "No. This record is not tainted. Not at all. Period." I guess he forgot the classic Palmero finger wagging.

Well I'm disappointed. I thought my thread title was perfect. Nobody wants to talk about how much Barry Bonds sucks?

:(I think the fact that nobody is paying much attention to it is actually poetic justice.

Good point. But I think I was checking to see if Baseball Tonight was on yet.
Anyway, they had a video tribute to Bonds when he came here Monday for a double header. That irked me, but I understood it as a pretty classy thing to do, even though Bonds doesn't deserve such class. There was talk Barry wouldn't even make the trip, apparently until he learned about the tribute. But I was really disgusted and disappointed that the fans at PNC Park actually CHEERED for Bonds during the tribute and when he went up to bat. That's unheard of. People in Pittsburgh have been hating Barry Bonds since before hating him became fashionable. Barry is like the perfect storm of suckage. He's a total jerk, he chokes in the playoffs, he's a cheater, AND he wanted to be traded when he was in Pittsburgh. I'm so disappointed that people here would ever cheer for him again.

Don'tcare about Bonds. Don't care about the record. Don't care about the steroids.

Wanting to be traded from Pittsburgh seems like a no-brainer to me. You can hardly hold that against the guy.

You seem to be forgetting that when Barry was in Pittsburgh, the Pirates were very good. In fact, if Bonds hadn't disappeared every year in the playoffs, we probably would have gone to the WS. Wanting to be traded from the Pirates then and wanting to be traded from them now are two completely different things.

The way I see it is this ... since the 80's*, there have been steroids. And from most evidence it looks like there are a large percentage of professional players who have used them - especially with steroids not even being tested for, for a long time. So, a lot of records that have been broken over the last 20 years are likely just as tainted as this one ... sure this one is big but it has been blown out of proportion by ESPN, they have been covering this pretty constantly for about 2 years now. All I'm saying is I don't think sports are getting any cleaner by engraining all these kids minds with steroids, i think its the same problem with drugs - that it just perpetuates the problem. But anyway, this is a country where people drink heavy amounts of coffee and chug energy drinks all day to get by and rely on the chemicals that we have found over time to get by every day in life ... if you were looking at millions of dollars to play compared to whatever job you get with your criminal justice degree, you may just make the choice too. Would barry still be playing today and hitting so many home runs if he didn't juice? Who knows. But it's not a problem that is going away today - just think about how many HR's A-Rod will hit, and who knows what kind of dirt they will plant about him on ESPN. I guess what I'm sayin is ... get used to it.
