According to the Globe WMP has cleared waivers and now is capable of being traded. So with the signing of Kielty will the Sox try and move WMP? If so what the hell will they get for him? And will they package someone or just move him. It will be interesting to see if anyone has any interest.
According to a major league source, Wily Mo Pena has cleared trade waivers, meaning any team is free to negotiate a deal with the Red Sox for the outfielder before the end of the month.
The fact that he cleared trade waivers does not mean the Sox can option Pena to the minors. He is still out of options, and would have to clear the standard waiver wire to be eligible for demotion.

So, how would they get him through the "standard waiver wire" so they could send him to Pawtuckett or Portland?

I still do not know if they can do that but if they can.... Just send him to Lowell... I bet he is a hellava slow pitch softball player.. IF the sox want to trade him to me I am taking phone calls... I can offer up a thirty pack of some shitty beer.

I'm not 100% sure but I think when you put a player on waivers with the intent to option him to the minor leagues it is irrevocable and you can't pull him back. The waiver process for the purpose of an eventual trade you can pull the guy back if a team outright claims the player. Or something like that. I'm still not 100% sure that is all right.

VERY simple way to send WMP to Pawtucket. Wouldn't be the first time this team invented an injury to give to a player. WMP goes to the 15 day DL with a phantom injury and gets 2 or 3 weeks in Pawtucket in a "rehab assignment".
Meanwhile, Kielty suddenly has a place on the team.

I cant imagine WMP accepting that. If he isnt hurt, what incentive does he have to say that he is?

you are correct, he is better forcing his release for his own career

What's Pena going to do? Seriously, what would he do that would make an impact on this team if he were DL'ed?

think it is still worth it?Yeah, Grebeck really did a number on the Sox when it happened to him. And some of Clement's DL stints really hurt us when he lashed out to the media.
This is the same team that still came out looking pretty after Jay Payton had a shouting match with Tito in 2005 and looked good after Shea Hillenbrand said "Trade me [Expletive Deleted]!" to Theo. You're not going to convince me that Wily Mo Pena is going to do more damage than either of those 2.

that is not the same as placing a healthy player on the DL...the others were a war of words and Payton was sent home, Hillenbrand cut and a dink on all teams since (who is he playing for now?), Clement was a trooper - the man was seriously injured and the team failed to find it - olso he was hit by pitches, was that part of the plan, sit there and take one of the head?
Finally Grebeck was hitting 0.049 so he had no right saying anything - wily Mo hit 300 last season and had 26 HR in cincy when playing
