The Sox made what was the easiest move procedurally to clear a roster spot for Curt Schilling, sending down Javy Lopez, who has options remaining, to Pawtucket. Lopez was distressed by the decision, understanding that he was at risk but hoping that he'd pitched well enough to save a spot.

Lopez did everything they asked of him, YET, he's sent to Pawtucket while Tavarez is on the team...

Only because he has options so he can be sent down safely without having to clear waivers. I'm pretty sure he will be back shortly. It is a good thing to have too much pitching!!

Lopez has been pretty effective and didn't deserve to be sent down. I too would like to see him back. Sox need to figure how they are going to keep all the pitchers they want on the big league roster!

SB39, let's see who clears Waivers and can be moved - I am sure by this point every player on the roster has been offered trying to slip one or two through

At this point in the season I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox tried to slip one of their pitchers through waivers he would get claimed. Everyone is looking for BP help and how many of the Sox BP guys have been truly ineffective. Crap they even were able to trade Piniero for a prospect TBNL.
