OMG OMG OMG

I cant believe it! The celtics landed the former MVP! (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Aq1A9erjhm694j110HlpU7k5nYcB?slug=ap-celtics-garnetttrade&prov=ap&type=lgns)

KEVIN F'N GARNETT! Are you kidding me?!

http://www.onlinesports.com/images/phf-aagk120.jpg

So I guess our lineup looks like this:

K-Perc, KG, Pierce, Ray Allen, Rondo

Can you say "Celtics going to the championship?!?"

Garnett + Allen + Pierce = at least a #3 playoff seed and possible appearance in the NBA Finals.

This was the big man they so desparately needed.

Kudos to Ainge for proving that he's not dumber than dogsh*t.

Amen, brother.

You know, thinking about it, he made all the right moves this off-season. We would have got Garnett earlier, if he wanted to play for us. Then we went out and got Ray Allen ... and look, all the sudden KG doesn't mind playing for Boston.

I don't care what people will say about a lack of depth - we got 3 all-stars at the PF, SF and SG positions and a nice young talent at PG. We are now a force to be reckoned with. Woooooooooo! :) :) :)

Getting Garnett makes me reminice about when this guy was scaring people away from the paint:

This team so sorely missed that kind of presence.

The deal is not done yet, and even if it does get done, I'm not a big fan of it. Ya, we've got Garnett, but we're getting raped by Minnesota. I don't think he's worth five players and two FIRST ROUND picks.

Ok, I'm sick and tired of this "youth movement" talk we hear EVERY FRIGGIN YEAR from the C's. Always getting youth and saying "Well, if we just wait a few more years............just a few more seasons........see, his play his improved gradually, just give it some time.". Meanwhile, Red is spinning in his grave while the glory of the C's of old gets urinated on a little more by the false hopes of continuous draft picks coming in and then crapping the bed.

Ainge finally had the balls to build a contender. So what if we dealt draft picks, do you REALLY think that this front office knows how to work the draft anyway?

Alright, so if we didn't get Garnett (which is a huge reach to say we won't now), do you think we are a better team with Jefferson, Telfair, Green, and Ratliff?

I will take KG over all of those guys any day. We could run the court with Pierce and Allen and all those young guys, but that doesn't put us into a position to win a championship. Not this year at least, and who knows what happens to those guys later. With KG, we are instant contenders, and if we sign him to an extension (which I am willing to bet is a clause in the trade) we are contenders for the long run. I don't care who you have at PG or Center (even though Rondo is sick and Perkins is a nice defender), you have that trio and you have a good team. I'll admit that giving up 2 1st round picks isn't too cool, but come on - it's KG! This is easily the second best big man behind Duncan in the NBA right now. He probably makes the 1st round picks the #28 or later pick in the draft. Plus, the fact is, the aforementioned Rondo and Perkins, along with Tony Allen are still 3 pretty good young players. Why would we be so unwilling to part with these guys when we can have one of the most dominating players in the game???

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited that we've got KG - it's just that I think 5 players and 2 first round picks is a little excessive...for anyone.

Except when the only guy leaving town who was truly in the Celtics long-term plans was Jefferson.

Look, I see where you are coming from but it is difficult enough to make a trade in the NBA. Then add to that the fact being the 2nd worst doormat in the NBA might not even net you a top 3 pick, you can't sit around waiting for the law of averages to even out because you're not guaranteed a shot to rebuild at will like in other sports.

This deal might not make them an instant champion (and by no means do I believe they are better than even 4 of the top teams out West) but there's one thing that keeps sticking out in my mind:

The NBA does not re-seed in the playoffs. So someone does the Celts a favor and knocks off one of the big boys then they are THAT much closer to a legit shot at a title. Get into a situation where a team like last year's Utah sneaks into the Finals from the West and, well... You get my point. Lots of "what ifs" but seems to me the '01 Pats and the '04 Sox had to overcome a lot of "what ifs" themselves.

I think this will be fun. Really looking forward to some exciting basketball.

I don't know how true this is, but I heard that this has totally pissed
off the Phoenix Suns who believed that they were going to end up with Garnett in a deal with the Celtics, but allegedly, Ainge decided to keep him for the Celts instead, and sticking it to Phoenix.

At least that is a story going around Phoenix. Have any of you heard this?

I really dont care much for today's NBA. It is nothing but a hot shot, hot dogging schoolyard league, IMO. Everyone is out for themselves..... Would never pay a dime to see an NBA game.

I don't know but unless we get Amare and Nash why would we give up KG? It's freakin K ... G!!!! I can't believe this, I can CARE about the Celts again!

It turns the Celtics from awful to slightly better. Maybe a low playoff team. Big deal! They aren't winning the NBA championship anytime soon. With or without Kevin Garnett!! Ho hum!!!

It's probably fixed anyway!!!:)

The C's now have a legit shot to represent the East in the Finals. Winning it will probably be another story.

Garnett was exactly the piece this team needed. We had plenty of point scorers, but nobody who could work the paint and play D as well. With KG in the mix, you will suddenly see Pierce and Allen have amazing years. With KG, you now have someone you can match up to just about any big man in the league. Don't underestimate as to how big of an improvement that is.

Dude ... why do you even watch sports if you never expect your team to win???

This is an improvement I have never seen a team make from one season to the next - from the bottom 2 teams of the conference to the top 2!

what it does is make the Celtics more attractive to the mid level exceptions and a possible run at a championship. you can now think about a grant hill coming off the bench for $5 million, or a different older player thinking about him being the peice to push the Celts over the edge

BUT

3 years from now, how many Bob Lobel comments of "why can't we get players like that" will be barked when Jefferson and possibly Green are All-Stars

HOWEVER

remember Dino Radja and his 20/10 season based on being the only option and how he disappeared - could that be Jefferson
or Terry Durod and his through the roof jumping ability much like Green and you can see why this is a risk but one worth it

DUDE The Celtics have been irrelevant for 20 years!!! This move is going to do nothing but give fans like you false hope that the Celts will compete for a championship!!

And as far as what I expect... I don't expect anything!! I root for the teams I follow to do as well as they can.

who plays center and point guard?

Perk and Rondo do not instill confidence right now

maybe, yes maybe Rondo grows and improves but he needs a bunch of work on his shooting skills

maybe, yes Maybe Perk becomes servicable but I fear he is Eric Fernston/Rick Robey/Eric Montross

Ummm, aren't you guys counting your chickens before they hatch. The deal's not 100% done yet. I'll start fantasizing about potential C's play-off hopes when they have the press conference.

The T-Wolves could blow up this deal at any time...plus, doesn't a deal this large have to get approval from the NBA? There are a lot of things that could still go wrong with this thing.

BTW, I only have a passing interest in the C's. I watch them in Jan.-March since there's no football or baseball to follow. (I know there's playoff football in Jan). If the C's are good, I'll probably follow them a little more closely.

So what you're saying is that the deal's not done, right?

I'm not trying to be coy but like I said the NBA or T-Wolves could still blow this deal up. And the way the C's luck has been running over the last 20 years, it wouldn't suprise me if this deal didn't work out.

YES UNTIL IT IS SIGNED OFF IT CAN FALL APART BUT BE ALL ACCOUNTS IT IS A DONE DEAL

sorry for caps

now how to fill the 4 roster spots sign the 2 second round pick - I like Big Baby - and go after an experianced Point Guard and Chris Webber

pretty close to what they have now I assume because in the NBA, the salary have to be within 15% of each other

I suggest the mid level exception for Webber

as of today it will be 3 high priced players, Perk and Tony Allen and a bunch of minimum guys

That would be cool but I don't think we have a lot of money to sign people like that anymore. I'm not sure how the luxury tax works in the NBA, but this trio has got to have us close to the cap. We may have to get most of our talent from the draft with these guys on board, and now it makes sense that Ainge picked a PG and C in the draft - he was planning on this all along.
