Sounds like unless a deal is made that one of those 2 lefties may be heading back down I-95 to Pawtucket when Schilling returns. So that begs the question. Which one goes? Kason Gabbard or Jon Lester? Or do they both stay and the Sox make a different move? Trade El Loco or Snyder? Keep Gabbard for long relief? Or does Gabbard or Lester get dealt in a package for a hitter?
What do you guys think the Sox will do?

here's what I'd like to see happen..........
Schilling comes back, Gabbard goes back to P'tuk, Lester stays with Big Club as 5th starter --- NO TRADES containing either one of these 2 lefties for some hitter only, period, this year
I see next year Beckett & DiceK as 1 & 2 starters, no Schilling back, no Wakefield back moving Lester and Buchholz into the 3 & 4 spots (don't know about Gabbard's role)
deal Wily Mo Painsya and Craig Hanson for a bag of balls and a six pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon
here's what I think will happen.........
Wily Mo & ("somebody" from The Farm) will be traded for 2 or maybe -- if we are lucky -- 3 players that are spot players or farmhands themselves we may never have heard about --- don't know whether they will be pitchers or positional personnel
P.S (for next year)---- I think Theo will NOT do anything do shed Lugo or JD Drew and I have NO IDEA whether he thinks Lowell is worth trying to sign in FA -- my gut tells me no
Schilling is back only on a shorty deal (under $8MM w/heavy incentives / 1 yr w/club option for 2nd yr)
Its a very difficult decision to make, but it's also a good situation to be in.
Of the two, IMO, Gabbard appears to come unglued easier when things start to go bad, and once they do go bad, they get much worse for him because, again IMO, he appears to lack major league maturity and he panics ......and loses control of what he wants to do.
Lester, on the other hand, has developed more of that ML maturity.
That being said, we have to wait and see how Schilling responds before any decision should be reached. Once rosters are expanded later in the season, they will both be here, anyway.
I, still, am not very high on Wakefield remaining in the rotation, even though he had a good outing the other day, it WAS Tampa Bay, and the Devil Rays are about as pitiful a major league team as I have ever seen.

Simple: You wait until August 1st to see if one of them was moved and if not, you post this thread then :)

I think Gabbard will be heading back down to Pawtucket once Schilling is healthy. He'll be back in the starting rotation next year once Schilling and/or Wakefield retire.

They should keep Lester in the rotation and send Gabbard to Pawtucket.

it a tough call but right now I sticking with Lester, more upside and power. Or if Timlin goes back on the DL - we move one of them into the pen for extra arm.

Lester #4
Gabbard #5
Move Wakefield and Tavares to middle relief.
Gabbard needs more experience so we can see what we really have. He isn't doing any worse than Wakefield or Tavares, so we might as well use him that way it will benefit us more next year.

It COULD be that Tito and co. knows that Gabbard is overachieving. He MIGHT know a little bit more about managing a team than the rest of us, as much as we try to convince ourselves different :icon_fU: hehe
