What's up, Sox Planet People? My name's Fitzy. I'm new to the Planet, was referred here by some Pats Planet pals a while back. I just registered, check in from time to time, but feel like it's time to get some osting going.
So, I thouhgt I'd lead off today by dropping in my latest video rant (how shamelessly self-promotional-esque of me). I don't think the Sox should make a big move, and here's 3:15 of nonsense as to why.
<script src="http://flash.revver.com/player/1.0/player.js?mediaId:344098;affiliateId:67501;height: 392;width:480;" type="text/javascript"></script>
I don't know if any off you fellas have ever seen any of my video garbage before. if so, my thanks. if not, um, very not safe for work, my friend. Headphones, poir favor (and earmuffs at home w.kids).
Cheers and GFY to all,
Fitzy:icon_fU:

Hello, Fitzy. I am Theo Epstein and I am the greatest guitar player in the WORLD! self-TAUGHT! no-LESSONS! (thanks, dad)
Hey Fitzy, I don't know if you know who I am, but in addition to being a huge Sox fan, I can't play a guitar worth a crap, in fact, I am tone deaf, but what I am...is a fantastic NFL offensive coordinator.

As for trades, no, they don't need to make a major deal. HOWEVER, unless Wily Mo Pena's success last night was more than that, then we need a decent bench bat. If Pena continues to crap the bed, then why not try and target a Reggie Sanders and help solidify the bench?

Haven't we already established what Wily Mo Cerrano is? He's a tease. He needs to be a DH on a small market AL team for a while...He's not going to get the AB's he needs in Boston.
Every time Cerrano has a good night, people go, "Wow! Maybe he's not all that bad". Believe me, he is!
EDIT: Yes, I am trying to run Wily out of town. :D

Of course, he did do this agaisnt the Indians who have the uncanny tendency of not learning from their mistakes (think back to Game 5 of the '99 ALDS).

That hurts. I thought that I was the oNLY legend around here. :)

And welcome, Fitzy - I've already f'ed myself twice today, but thank you, I could always use another :)
Edit: Holy crap, the Wicked Pissah Webcast has advertising now. Now I really will go f myself. (Congrats on making a dime for your labor)

Yeah, well, if DO said that he likes eating a dirt sandwich right before the game and that it makes him hit homeruns doesn't mean the whole team should start eating dirt sandwiches.

How come everyone the Red Sox are rumored to get the Yankees have to jump in on it as well???? It ticks me off!
The Sox were one of the only teams intereted in Ty Wiggington and now it looks like the Yankees are about to get him for Scott Procter.
Every single article I've read has both the Yankees and Sox interested in the same guys regardless of real team needs.

I've noticed this. I think Cashman has finally come to the realization in the last couple years that he and his guys can't evaluate talent for crap, and their best bet is to block us rather than build themselves up. In the long run, I am glad of this, because it is not a philosophy that will work for them in the long run. I always secretly hope that the Sox are showing interest in guys that are major duds just to make the Yankers want them. And who knows? Maybe they've been doing that.

that being the case could the sox just be raising the stakes by openly talking about these players.
also Tampa historically wants a boat load more than the players they are offering is worth

I think I read in SI just yesterday that TB won't make the deal for Proctor but that they WOULD make the deal with the Dodgers for Wilson Betemit. Have things changed? Anyone got a link?

Ty goes to ...
Jul 26 - According to the St. Petersburg Times, four teams have expressed serious interest in infielder Ty Wigginton: the Twins, Dodgers, Red Sox and Yankees.
The Devil Rays are looking to improve their beleaguered bullpen, possibly with the addition of several relievers, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Talks with the Yankees have included right-hander Scott Proctor, though the deal might have to be expanded. The Red Sox, Dodgers and Twins all have several young pitchers who would be of interest to the Rays. Wigginton, 29, is open to signing a long-term deal. His salary is expected to exceed $4 million next season through arbitration.

Home of the Brave?
Jul 27 - Mark Teixeira is almost certain to be traded away from the Rangers, with the Braves considered the most likely destination, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. A likely deal would bring catcher/first baseman Jarrod Saltalamacchia to Texas, along with a couple of prospects, perhaps a pitcher and an infielder.
The Angels were the most recent to tweak their offer. The Angels had originally offered first baseman Casey Kotchman and a choice of outfield prospects Nathan Haynes or Terry Evans. It is believed they have now added a pitcher to the mix, but the level of pitcher could vary widely from a young prospect with a high ceiling (20-year-old right-hander Nick Adenhart) to an experienced but struggling major leaguer (recently demoted Ervin Santana) to a prospect on the verge of pitching in the majors (lefty Joe Saunders).
The Dodgers, thought to be one of the teams interested in Teixeira, say they intend to go forward with James Loney as their first baseman.
The Red Sox, meanwhile, are believed to still be in the hunt for Teixeira, the Boston Globe reports. Teixeira was drafted by the Sox in the ninth round in 1998, but chose to attend Georgia Tech. He then was drafted by the Rangers in 2001 with the fifth overall pick. Currently making $9 million per year and arbitration-eligible next season, he can become a free agent after 2008.
Don't expect Teixeira to end up in the Bronx. Without giving up Phil Hughes or Joba Chamberlain, the Yankees have little chance of acquiring Teixeira from the Rangers, The New York Times reports.
Texas wants promising young talent in return for Teixeira, the Dallas Morning News reports.
