NEW YORK (AP) - Curt Schilling (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/85963) says that Barry Bonds (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/85852) and Mark McGwire's refusals to address accusations of steroids use are tantamount to admissions.
"If someone wrote that stuff about me and I didn't sue their (butt) off, am I not admitting that there's some legitimacy to it?" he said on HBO's "Costas Now."
Schilling said "this will be the steroids era forever" and proposed that Jose Canseco and Rafael Palmeiro (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/player/85374) should be punished for steroids use.
"Jose Canseco admitted he cheated his entire career," Schilling said. "Everything he ever did should be wiped clean. I think his MVP should go back and should go to the runner-up."
As for Palmeiro, Schilling said: "The year he tested positive, nothing he did that year should count, which I think would take away 3,000 hits for him."
Schilling discussed accusations by Bonds' former mistress, Kimberly Bell, who testified before a grand jury that Bonds told her of his steroid use in 2000. She also said Bonds gave her $80,000 in cash to buy a house, the proceeds of which allegedly came from a paid autograph session that authorities also are investigating as going unreported to the Internal Revenue Service.
"If I wrote a book about Bob Costas and in that book I wrote about Bob Costas' girlfriend being on the road, and Bob Costas giving that girlfriend card show money and I outlined your daily steroid regimen, I've got to believe your first line of defense is to sue my (butt) off," Schilling said.
"It goes to the Mark McGwire thing in Congress. I mean, I'm a huge Mark McGwire fan. But I just always thought it was very simple: If you did something and someone asks you if you did it and you didn't do it, you say no. Any other answer than no is some form of yes, isn't it?"
Bonds' lawyer, Michael Rains, in the past accused Bell of trying to extort money from his client and using the platform to promote a book that never was published, but Bonds has not filed suit against her. Rains did not immediately return a telephone message Wednesday. During a March 2005 congressional hearing, McGwire repeatedly refused to answer questions about his alleged steroids use. Schilling also testified during the hearing and was more muted in his steroids comments.

Its a no win situation. No matter what they say, it will be used against them. Its along the lines of "its better to keep silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt".

I think that Schilling makes a valid point about records being tainted by the use of performance enhancing drugs. Such as in the case of Palmeiro and his 3000 hits. As long as MLB doesn't do anything about steroid use and abuse the status Quo will always be the same. Seems to me its a matter of economics over honesty anymore.

And no one had EVER played in 2632 games in a row before. Thats superhuman. AND he didnt just break the record...he shattered it....by over 500 games!!!! Thats like a 23% improvement.
Lets see....61 home runs to 73 home runs...thats a 19% improvment.
But im sure its all a coincidence.

But up til this point, there's no evidence pointing to that.
So yes, it is a coincidence.

I am not talking about all records. I am instead referring to instances where steroid abuse is proven. One can speculate about whether one it doping or juicing or whatever, but until proof can be established it will continue to be speculation and nothing more. i can honestly say that I wish there was someway to prove that Bonds was using roids frequently but it appears that natural growth hormones can be masked in some way to the point that its undetectable.

Barry Bonds has never admitted to using steroids. He just "looks" like he does them. And he does things that up until now had never been done.

we are Red Sox Fans we are amotional and fly off the handle at any change in the weather.
Bonds admitted in his grand jury testimony that we should have never seen he used something he didn't know what it was... so is that a confession? I can't say for it never should have leaked

I like the little debate going with bonds and costas.. It was schilling that basically called bonds a liar and a steroid user, but bonds busts back out at costas calling him a little midget. then costas busts back at him.. lol.. I guess bonds does have a point though.. costas is what 5 foot 6 and weights 150 lbs? when he got to NBC he did only weight about 130 lbs... I guess there is going to be some controversy about costas now.. bonds... your an idiot!

I dreamed I was on a beautiful tropical island with hot tribal island wenches running around. But just across the water, there were big, majestic snow capped mountains. There was one guy in the tribe whose sole responsibility was beer.

As I understand it, there were times when Cal Ripken played when he wasn't 100%, and perhaps shouldn't have been playing. So, I don't think it's steroids as much as it's just sheer determination to play every day no matter what, and quite a bit of luck that he never sustained a major injury.
As for Schilling, I can't disagree with him. If someone started smearing my name and basically calling me a cheater, there's no way I'd just sit there and not do anything to defend myself, unless defending myself would bring out facts that prove my guilt.

NEW YORK (AP)
- A day after Barry Bonds called him a "little midget man who knows (nothing) about baseball," broadcaster Bob Costas said he wasn't upset with the San Francisco Giants slugger and responded with a jab of his own.
"As anyone can plainly see, I'm 5-6 1/2 and a strapping 150, and unlike some people, I came by all of it naturally," Costas said Thursday in a telephone interview. http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/images/smilies/rofl2.gifhttp://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/images/smilies/rofl2.gif
On this week's edition of HBO's "Costas Now," commissioner Bud Selig, Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling and chemist Patrick Arnold discussed Bonds, his pursuit of Hank Aaron's home run record and suspicions that Bonds has used steroids. Schilling and Arnold said they believed Bonds had taken performance-enhancing drugs.
Bonds viewed at least part of the show before Wednesday's game against Atlanta.
"I've actually always had a pretty cordial relationship with Barry," Costas said. "I have no ill feelings toward him personally. I regard him as one of the greatest players of all time who got an inauthentic boost and then became a superhuman player. I wish him no ill whatsoever."
Costas said he understood why Bonds might have denigrated him.
"He's under tremendous scrutiny and some pressure. It's no big deal," Costas said. "This is a consequence of doing your job, and I've never tried to do my job in any case with the intention of calling attention to myself. I think if people watch the program, they can judge for themselves."
Told before Thursday's series finale that Costas claimed he came by his physique naturally, Bonds responded, "How do you know?" before going on to say he didn't care.

LOL! Barry Bonds thinks Bob Costas took steroids to become a "little midget man". No, Barry. People don't take steroids to become normal sized people. They take steroids to go from a WR's body to a defensive lineman's body.
