I have looked all over Sox PLanet, and I can't find the "PANIC" button. Can someone please point it out to me?
I wasn't at all concerned until the KC fiasco, and now this. I love good pitching, pitching wins......BUT YOU NEED MORE THAN 2 RUNS A GAME TO WIN! This reminds me of the Sox team of the late eighties/early nineties.
So, I need to find the PANIC button please.....before it's too late.

You want to panic when we are playing bad ball and still up by 7 games in our division? What did you do all the previous years?

So, I need to find the PANIC button please.....before it's too late. The Sox of the late 80's/early 90's simply didn't hit, period. Poor on-base team that relied all too much on long balls. Typical Morgan Magic era.
This team is actually hitting well above average. It's getting the baserunners home that's been hard to do. There's something eerily wrong when a team gets 12 hits in a game and manages 3 runs or less from them.

I am not panicking. But I am so disappointed and pissed at the performance lately. Something needs to be done and I am getting weary of the Terry Francona keep everyone happy approach. Maybe shake things up a little bit. I'm not saying bat Lugo 4th. But maybe move Youks back up to 2, Lowell to 5 and Pedroia down to 8! I don't know. Do something!! Because the alternative doesn't seem to be working.

They can't because they need to "showcase" Wily Mo Cerrano before they trade him...It sucks but that's how the front office is going to look at it.

Which are they showcasing, his exceptional ability to misplay routine fly balls or his remarkably slow reaction time?

after last nite, DiceK's ramp-up of performances just before the same AS break did not seem to get reversed one iota
he does not look very comfortable CONSISTENTLY AT ALL NOW, IMO
I don't know now if Gabbard fits in a trade scenario even for a bat :icon_hang

Actually, I think Gabbard is the one being showcased. I think that is why they brought him up instead of Lester.
I am thinking some sort of Gabbard+Pena deal for a small market team, maybe throw in a Murphy from Pawtucket or something for a big bat.
I defeinitely see a Gabbard/Pena deal being pitched to other GM's, though.

The would do better selling DVD's of his at bats titled "How not to hit a Breaking Ball"

I like Wily Mo Pena, I think he would do a lot better if he wasn't always coming off the bench. If he was given the chance to play an everday role he would only get better. The guy is young and has real potential but how can we expect him to get better if he doesn't play but one or two games a week.

He's been playing for 5 years. He has over 1200 major league at bats already. He's not some rookie call up. Generally, 1200 at bats is enough to know if a guy has it or not.
1233 at bats, 315 hits, 66 home runs, 86 walks, 431 K's. I think these numbers are probably pretty close to what he is.

Wily got screwed early with his original contract. he was so sought after he had the call up clause and never put the time in hitting in the minors he should have... and who signed him to the contract ... why your new york yankmees, that is who
too bad it ruined a promising career and he needs some at bats over a whole season to make up for it and he will never get it here

Wily hasn't had the chance to play over 100 games in any season except once in his career. Wily hit 26 home runs in 110 games back in 2004. Sure he doesn't hit for a great average, but he has lot of power and a dangerous hitter for any team if you are willing to have him at the back end of a lineup.
2002 Wily played 13 games
2003 Wily played 80 games
2004 Wily played 110 games
2005 Wily played 99 games
2006 Wily played 84 games
He is 25 years old and has plenty of homerun potential. I bet if he went to a team that would play him everyday he would have over 40 homerun a season and by the time he was 30 he would become a decent average hitter with better patience at the plate.

I don't doubt the 40 Home Runs, but he will also have 200 strikeouts, and only 15 walks.
And who the hell wants to wait 5 years for his average to become decent?
Even if you're right, why don't we dump him now, let him develop on another team, and then sign him when he is a real player? Why kill ourselves by keeping him when he sucks, and keep him from developing?

Wily Mo should play in a MLB town where the fanbase doesn't know or care to know it's ass from a hole in the ground -- like San Francisco, Miami, Colorado, Washington or Pittsburgh
then when their eyes fall out their heads from watching the horror that is WMP they prolly will just think the game got called on account of darkness

He offers very little off the bench. He strikes out too much to be an effective pinch hitter. We have already discussed that he needs a lot of at bats to be truly effective. So as a filll in starter he is not helpful. And forget it as a late inning defensive replacement! So tell me again....why did Theo trade for this guy?
There is far too much talent on this team for things to continue in this manner. After all, the magic number dropped, last night, from 64 to 63, so, at this point it should be the Yankees who are worrying, not us. WE, not them, are 7 games ahead.
Yeah, I know of the history of this team, probably moreso that all of you, being that I am 68 years young.... but this year its different, even with the fact that our boys are looking like shit right now....
Things will change, they always do.
Now, are you all ready to stand and give us a good cheer?
Well, maybe after tonight's game. OK?
