Heard on ESPN and read that the Pats and Samuel are close to a deal.

QUINCY - The final piece of the puzzle (or so they hope) could fall into place for the Patriots this weekend. One of Asante Samuel’s agents on Friday expressed optimism that the cornerback and the team could agree on a long-term contract before Monday’s deadline for franchise-tagged players.

I hope they don't pay him too much.

I forget what was reported that Samuels was asking for but wasn't it pretty close to the Franchise Tag price?

Either way, if the Pats sign Asante for the amount that Ty Law was seeking when he left, it'll be fine with me. Afterall, Asante is much younger now than Law was then and IMHO we need Asante's ability and veteran experience at CB.

Asante is nowhere close to signing with the patriots.. that is evident in the fact that the pats just made a trade for Wesley from the bears..
