Let's try this again..... Sox bats still in a funk, but the arms have been keeping them in games. Wakefield was the stopper last night. Beckett's turn now. Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day for a ball game!

Wow, Ellsbury called up for the injured Covelli and he is getting his feet wet right away!!! This makes it very interesting tonight to see how he does. You'll note that Jacoby Ellsbury is making his major league debut tonight. Coco Crisp's sore left thumb is sprained and will need 3-5 days to recuperate so the Sox felt the need for Ellsbury to get his feet wet in the major leagues.
The Sox also placed Joel Pineiro on the disabled list. The Sox reliever was less than enthusiastic about the move.
There's no timetable on how long Ellsbury will stay with the team, but members of the Sox organization anticipate that Ellsbury will go back to Pawtucket at some point and then return in September.
With the Red Sox lineup not exactly clicking pitching and run prevention have become major issues again and Ellsbury will give the Sox good defense in center.
I asked one Sox executive who's faster, Ellsbury or Crisp? evidently it's pretty close. I was told that Double-A pitching prospect Clay Buchholz is faster than both of them.
You'll also note that Julio Lugo is spending another day working on his hitting behind the scenes and not on the stage at Fenway.
Matt Clement, who underwent major shoulder surgery last summer, threw in the bullpen at about 70 percent according to manager Terry Francona, which was pretty impressive.

Let's see if Beckett has any luck keeping Lofton off the bases tonight!!

oo, how exciting, Ellsbury! Is Coco's injury a sprained neck? You know, from looking over his shoulder all the time at Ellsbury?
Edit: And no Lugo. Nice.

Good to see Ellsbury. When I turned the game on, the national anthem was being sunged and I was like WTF? But then I saw the guy and it was nice that the crowd helped him finish.

I was wondering who was playing center today...Is Coco hurt? I know he hurt his hand...
Cool! We get to scout Jacoby! Hail to The Chief!

Haha, hits Manny on the 0-2 pitch. That's just a brutal thing to happen for a struggling pitcher.

Wow.... It felt like they should have been up 10-0 and now they are losing 4-5... And, Does Frank ****face get a hit off of anyone else besides the Sox.. Every year he destroys the Sox

Not a good AB Tek..... I know Beckett gave up 5 runs in 5 innings.... BUT, how many opportunities has the Sox offense wasted? Seems to be a ongoing theme...
Tejada should have given up atleast 8 runs....

I just want to go on record saying the Sox suck. Pure and simple. They suck. No excuses and no talent. They suck.

Not soo sure about that... This was a frustrating game, no doubt... They just haven't been able to get hits with RISP for a while now. I would like to know what their numbers in June were for that. I would expect that to even out. I think they are a good team in a very bad division.(Thank God)
But..... A few things are really worrying me right now
1. Ortiz and Manny's lack of Power this year. I thought they would come out of it but it is July now and still no sign
2. Lugo- His hitting sucks and now it is effecting other parts of his game. YOU CANNOT RUN INTO THE 3RD OUT AT 3RD WHEN YOU ARE THE TYING RUN. I just don't get what trying to take 3rd there does for you. A single will prolly score you anyways... He Sucks and we still have 3 and a half years of this shit
3. Starters.. I really only trust 2 starters at this point. Dice K and Beckett. This might end up being a problem.
4. Lugo sucks... :) I would really hate to be him and have to walk around Boston right now. Can we DL him?

I don't want to jump on the bash Lugo bandwagon because at 9 mill for 4 years, we really need him to find some semblance of himself, but if nothing else, I thought he'd at least be a good guy for pinch running.
That lame non-sliding attempt at stealing third was one of the dumbest plays I've ever seen - on every level. If there was less than two outs, he'd be getting himself in position to score on a pop fly, but stealing 3rd is a low percentage play and with two outs, it just means he can score on a base hit, which he has a good shot of doing anyway from 2nd, with his speed.
And not looking to see if a throw was coming and then not sliding - WTF?

WTF? how does this happen with all his speed?
to long-term BoSox cynics, this sure looks like a guy who may be trying to "play" his way out of here, don't she?
Theo is in a box -- I don't see how he can move this guy whatsoever -- he can't possibly eat his contract a la Rent-a-Wreck -- Juli-0-for HAS to play, for better or for worse (and he can't get any worse) so the only option left is for him other than having a couple of back-to-back 3-4 nites and no errors in the field is to slice a hand open reaching for a steak knife in the kitchen drawer or something

The look on Youk's face was priceless. You could actually hear him say "WTF!!!???" in his head.
The Sox finish paying the Braves for Rent-A-Center at the end of this year...and they're finished carrying Abe Lincoln Clement's contract around too. I'm sure that they'll move Lugo by the trading deadline or in the off-season.
Until then, they should put Lugo on the DL. The shortstop in AAA can't be as bad as Juli-0-for-ever. What do they have to lose? They have a decent lead in the division. The AAA guy will be batting 9th and can split time with Cora.
When is Cabrerra's contract up with the Angels?

The Texas catcher did double pump, but it was a quick double pump and then a strong perfect throw. Lugo had a good jump, but bizarrely he didn't slide - he actually slowed up for a few steps before reaching the bag and then bumped the third baseman like he was trying to knock the ball loose. And, I don't think an impact from Lugo couldn't knock the ball loose from Jessica Tandy.
I'd say he's pressing and frantically trying to do too much because of his situation and just making things worse. My vote would be to platoon him with Cora so that Lugo doesn't play more than 40 or 50% of the games for about 6 weeks and see if hopefully, he can recover if they start to give him more playing time again in August.

I don't trust Theo to ever get another short stop again. The guy just has to over think and over analyze every situation until he ends up with some of the worst choices he could make!
