I think batting Coco # 2 is a good thing.... Look at his numbers in the 2 hole when he was on the Indians... Pretty damn good.... The only Problem with that is that Youk is a great 2 hitter....
Got lucky there Coco...

Yeah, if I could meet Theo, I'd say "Tell me again why Jul-E-o Lugo is our lead-off hitter..."
He has the lowest OBP/OPS of all Major Leauge SS. Soon he'll be batting under .200
Since 'Droia has blossomed, why don't we put Lugo in the #9 spot? Too bad he sucks because he needs to be traded.

Ever since Mikiemod starting that thread about 1978 it seems that the Yanks can't lose and the Sox offense cannot hit. I blame him.. Off with his head :icon_fU:

Like I said on the ESPN Sox board:
Now that Timlin is healthy, I fully believe that Tito is going to disregard all the effort this bullpen made to become effective and trot Timlin's carcass out in just about every game.
Example of such being today. Snyder firing in the pen and he opts for Timlin.

Crappy end to that series! Bats are definitely in a funk!!
SamBam39
06-11-2007, 01:51 AM
Yeah, I didn't get the choice of Timlin just off the DL in a close game. Francona did a piss poor job of managing this game!
#1Patsfan_chica
06-11-2007, 01:57 AM
It would have been great to win today, especially on a day when the Yankees won but the Sox took the series and that makes me happy.

Yeah, I didn't get the choice of Timlin just off the DL in a close game. Francona did a piss poor job of managing this game!Timlin is to Francona as Rod Beck was to Jimy Williams
Timlin is who Francona calls in just about any situation. Only Theo will be able to pull the plug on it by trading or releasing him. Until then, Francona is going to continue to plug him in, regardless of how worthless he is now.

I was wondering that myself...You've got a big bat on the bench, why not use it?
Cal Ripken can sleep easy at night knowing that no Red Sox player will break his record under Terry "Day Off" Francona

actually thats an interesting point.... now i will be the first to admit that i'm not one of those " i know everything" type people and i know everything about everyone and team etc. for a while now though i have always been wondering... do other teams give their players day offs like the sox? I actually never really heard of it till it became an issue with manny. just curious

I'm not sure, but I do know that Miggie Tejada plays everyday...Every time the Sox play a division opponent, it seems like they use their "standard" line-up.
Terry is very mercurial when filling out the line-up card...Or so it seems.
But back to the Ortiz thing, didn't the Sox get a couple of baserunners in the 9th? What do you have to lose by batting Ortiz? If you end up tying the game you have to shuffle the defensive positions (but such is NL Baseball). I think Terry dropped the ball there...

Even if we went ahead, we would have had to shuffle the defensive positions. ;)
I would have batted Ortiz for Coco. You couldn't pinch hit for Lugo (who got on anyway) or Pedroia because we were out of middle infielders since Cora had already been used.
