It is strange.... The Sox have some pretty good right hand batters so you would think they would be better against Lefties... Not so much...

Terrible baserunning by Lowell. You never have to go halfway when you're on third. If you're unsure, you stay on the bag and wait for the fielder to make or not make the play. Either way you wait on the bag because you only need to move 90 ft.

It's not Tito's fault. He's got Romero and Piniero on the roster, he HAS to try to use them. He can only hope they don't suck too bad, and that the brass above him figures it out sooner rather than later and finds him some better middle relief. Maybe it'll be Delcarmen; maybe Lester comes back as the #5 and Tavarez goes back; who knows. But right now those two stiffs are about the only real weak spot on the team. (Well, I'd like to see Manny and David hitting a little more consistently... but, like a slow-boiling pot of water, I have faith that those two will eventually get on a roll.)

Wow...great game. I still don't understand why the second out of the 9th inning was an out though...

Saw this in the postgame show, the rulebook states that if a player is swinging on a third strike and is touched/hit by the ball, he is considered out.

Oddly enough, the same thing happened today in my son's Little League game. A kid was hit by the pitch, but he swung at it so it's a strike. In the Sox game, it happened to be strike three, so the batter is out.

Two things:
One, during that strikeout situation for the 2nd out, the play should have been live, so technically the runners should have advanced, cutting the lead down to 1.

Second of all, anyone still curious why I've been voicing concerns about Papelbon? Papelbon needs to alter his approach. His fastball doesn't move... at all. So batters are going up swinging at his first pitch, and often hammering it. He either needs to start with a splitter or slider, or use his breaking stuff.

If that is the case then V Tek needs to alter the way he calls Paps pitches!!

That sounds about right. That's the 3rd base coaches fault for not knowing the rulebook though. Technically the "out" call was correct though according to the MLB Rulebook, IF the swing was interpreted as such and not a check-swing.

Yes, I mentioned this about a month ago. I wish he would either mix in his curve or change more frequently or start dropping that splitter on the first pitch to keep hitters guessing.
