All right gang. I'm detecting some droopy faces here today, so I'm going to give you guys the same pep talk I gave my other Sox family over on UOTM:
We haven't had an off-day thread for a while, and, like our galant heroes of the diamond, I'm thinking we could use one.
First, the rest. The boys looked tired last night, pure and simple. Last night was their 6th game in 5 days. Hell, even Oki gave up a run the other night. I've heard rumors that there has been a touch of the flu running through the clubhouse as well. With as bad as the weather has been up there, I'm not surprised. Somebody needs to put JD's bat on bed rest with OJ and chicken noodle soup. In all seriousness, a day off, coupled with a good night's sleep in their own beds should work wonders.
Next, the rearrange. Dice-K is up next, and he's been great his last couple times out. Expect something extra special from him this time. Nuke returns to the rotation on Tuesday (barring any setbacks, which don't look likely). Get the rotation back in order, reshuffle the bullpen, move forward. We've got the sorry-ass, no account Rangers coming to town this weekend, a sweep could be in the offing.
Finally, the refocus. As I stated earlier in the MFY thread, how many of you would have been happy if you had been told at the start of ST that on May 24, the Sox would be 31-15, have the best record in the Majors, have what undoubtedly looks like the deepest, most balanced team in the Majors...oh, and by the way, have a 9 1/2 game lead on the 2nd place MFYs? No need to answer, I'll assume everybody. Well, that's the current state of affairs as we find them this morning. The Sox have a GREAT team this year, perhaps even a historically great team. We're not playing our next 116 games at the Toilet with the back end of our rotation. We've got games against the Rays, Rangers and Royals still on the schedule. Sure, along the way there are going to be games that make us go <!--emo&:hairraising:--><!--endemo-->:icon_hang <!--emo&:wtf:--><!--endemo-->, but I'm guessing far, far, FAR more that make us go <!--emo&--><!--endemo--><!--emo&:alc:--><!--endemo--><!--emo&:party2:-->http://209.85.48.8/9875/134/emo/party2.gif<!--endemo--> <!--emo&:party1:--><!--endemo-->
Tomorrow begins a new chapter in the season. So far, I'm REALLY enjoying the book! <!--emo&--><!--endemo-->
