PITTSBURGH — The Steelers added depth and a familiar face to their roster today when they signed veteran outside linebacker Chad Brown to a one-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not released.
Brown, 36, was originally drafted by the Steelers in the second round (44th overall) of the 1993 NFL Draft, during Head Coach Bill Cowher's second year with the team. In four seasons with the Steelers (1993-97), Brown started 49 games and registered 299 tackles (204 solo) and 30 sacks.
Following his tenure with Pittsburgh, Brown spent eight seasons (1997-04) with the Seattle Seahawks. In 2005, he started five games and recorded 54 tackles (35 solo) while playing for the New England Patriots. Brown (6-2, 245) has recorded 1,097 tackles (813 solo) and 78 sacks during his 13-year NFL career.
The Steelers made room on their roster for Brown by releasing third-year tight end Tim Euhus, who had signed with the team on Aug. 29.
Brown will wear jersey No. 94, the same number he wore when he was originally with the Steelers.
