<TD>Schilling has shown that he is a different pitcher this season. He has taken a little off his fastball to spot it better, and has effectively worked the changeup to upgrade his repitoire. This 40 year old is still the Ace of our young staff and he is a winner. Good news too - after a bad start, he always has a great one. Get ready for this one guys and gals.<BR><BR><i>If anyone doesn't know by now, Curt keeps a blog and posts one after every start - check out 38pitches (http://www.38pitches.com/) later tonight for it.</i></TD>
<TD> </TD>
<TD>The Sox have faced Cabrera a number of times (1-6, 9.27 ERA against the Sox), and there are a lot of familiar faces that he will be seeing. This notoriously wild pitcher will have to be on his A game to have a chance to beat Schill and the Sox today. Our lineup is full of patient hitters who work the count and I don't think he has the mojo that is necessary in this case. </TD>

All I know is that Daniel Cabrera doesn't stand a god-damned chance against our lineup. We are built to be patient and work the count - and when teams do that Cabrera has no chance.

I'll take the over on 6 walks.

Fully Tilted

Not to drag any MoJo down but Cabrera has been far better with the walks this year. His K/BB ratio is 26/7 for this year, or 3.71 K's to every BB.

Last season it was 157/104 or 1.51 K's to every BB.

We very well may see a different pitcher tonight. And make NO mistake, this guy has some of the best "stuff" in the game when he controls it all.

Our key to success at the plate is always going to be: work deep counts, get the SP out early and go to work on the bullpen. Hopefully we can do the same tonight.

We need Schill to step up a little tonight and give us a quality start.

This is why I think we got his number. That is his kryptonite.

If Schilling does his job and keeps us in the game, I like our chances. I'm so glad to be down with Toronto for now. I seriously hate playing them. They handles us pretty well every year and it's frustrating because they usually get rolled when they play the NYY.

It's a pity to waste Schilling on this stiff.

04-25-2007, 09:10 PM
Well it looks like he's coming around. In his 4 starts, he's walked 2, 1, 0 & 4. In the 0 walk game, he threw 7 2/3 innings against Detroit. Not too shabby. But then again, Detroit's not exactly going to work the pitch count to death.

Nasty pitch on the outside. I jumped in late but I haven't seen Cabrera's 98 mph FB that he used to throw all over the place. If he's dialed it down to get control of it, to say 95-96, that could be why he's walking less hitters this year.

"The second inning was even more of a struggle, with Matsuzaka needing 26 pitches to get through the inning. A catcher's interference call on Varitek -- which could have been the third out of the inning -- prolonged things. Still, Matsuzaka stranded two runners by getting Bobby Livingston on a grounder to short."

The first time he thought he called time, and the ump didn;t give it to him. He then argued with the ump for a while, out of the box. While he was warming up to get back in the box, Cabrera threw again and the ump called a strike. Lugo never re-entered the batters box.

This is why Wily can't DH - he can't hit a breaking ball. I said in earlier posts that pitchers will learn and adapt to this - point in case right here. He did not see one fastball in both ABs, I dont think.

EDIT: I suppose if he cant DH then he can't do anything. God damnit. Why Theo, WHY?!

WiMP's been in the Majors for a long-ish time now you figure a batting coach would have pulled him aside and taught him how to hit a breaking pitch.

Maybe WiMP is unteachable? That must be it. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

Pedro Cerrano: Jesus, I like him very much, but he no help with curveball.
