Boy do we love our "Ooooo's"
Remember Lou Merloni? Of course you do. I'm not old enough to remember anyone else but we love our Ooooo's. But we don't give them - they're earned. Only Youk gets the Youuuuuuk even though we have 3 potential Ooooo's.
With the potential for 3 Ooooo's, do you think Lugo and Drew will win over the fans enough to earn the chant?

Drew maybe but since he's not a scrappy dirt dog kind of player the fans might not embrace him like that.
Lugo? No because they'll trade him when the Sox get A-Rod next year...or Theo falls in love with another SS in the off-season.
Youk gets the "Yoooouk" because he's a dirt dog.

Tough to put a guy with no power at third. If they did sign Arod and thats a big if why not leave him at third???

I think they already do give JD Drew a "DREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW" when he comes up to the plate. I know I heard it at least once over the weekend Vs. NYY.
I was psyched to hear it as he came in with a terrible rep and has done nothing but exceed expectations.

Wait, nobody denied that he had good stats. Drew's rep is lack of durability. Let's see if he can play a whole season without landing on the DL.

Well, all I said was, I was psyched for him as he's performed so far. And there were other things said about him other than his lack of durability. He was said to be a guy who didn't care about the game or winning as he showed no emotion and wouldn't be able to perform in a pressure-cooker like Boston.
He was disliked in LA for those reasons specifically, even though he led them to the playoffs last year.
IMHO, he never got a fair shake on his way through the door.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I may be the only one on the board that WASN'T trashing JD since he came onboard ... personally, I have been a fan since his ATL days, and I have faith that he stopped taking whatever steroid he was on and hopefully that will improve his durability.
He is a great left-handed hitter and his swing is taylored for Fenway. Its a match made in heaven.

I'm sure you know, as well as many other people, that you don't need to show emotion to have it - some of the most fiery athletes are stone cold from the outside looking in. I'll tell you this - he wouldn't still be playing if he didn't want to. From what he made in the beginning of his career, he could retire on it, invest and live VERY confortably for the rest of his life and provide for any of his family.
And hey, maybe he just looks pissed because all the shit people talk about him. To me, he just seems buisness - thats all. He gets to the plate, he hits. He runs at full speed after he gets on base. He hustles to catch fly-balls, and just makes it look easy. Drew is an ideal Fenway player if anything.

I have never bashed JD Drew since the signing. I wasn't for it prior to, but I knew if he remained healthy he would be an upgrade over Trot. A good friend of mine brought his name up a couple of years ago and I emphatically said, "No Way".
I e-mailed him yesterday and told him I was seemingly wrong about the guy if he can stay healthy.

Exactly. Look at Bill Mueller and Mike Lowell for example. They worked out pretty well to date, no?

Yeah man, Lowell looks like a serial killer on the field, even after making a wicked good play. Can't judge a book by his cover.

The thing about that is it's almost ironic that the health problems are very persistent with both Trot and JD ... wasnt much of an upgrade in the durability dept. but JD is definately the superior hitter.

And it wasnt much of a downgrade as far as health concerns go either - got to give that one a tie.

The question has always been health. If he stays on the field then he will produce.

I'd also argue that Drew is by far the better fielder than Trot. I loved Trot, for the record, he is/was my favorite player for years. But he's not a great fielder any longer.
health concerns/Injuries is definitely a tie. Hopefully Drew can get on track. Keep in mind, he had some freak injuries (two caused by HBP alone) over the last few years.

Here's one, still looking for other info. I don't know of a good sight to get injury history for players. I'm just googling keywords.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2100198
"It was a fastball that hit me right on the wrist," said Drew, who homered three times in the previous two games. "I went out there to test it and it started to swell on me. I came in and got a clean X-ray, and it showed a clean break."
Edit: Found the other, it was from 2001
http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2006/11/25/progress_made_in_drew_talks/?page=2
He played just 72 games in 2005, when he sustained a fractured left wrist when hit by a pitch by Brad Halsey; his 2001 season was similarly cut short when he was hit by a pitch from David Wells and sustained a fracture of his right pinkie.
His other notables were knee (2002) and shoulder (2005) surgery.

No kidding, props for the article finds. Those are freakish. Sounds kinda funny too - "Sustained a fracture of his right pinkie"
