FOXBORO - Tom Brady won’t be spending the rest of the bye week playing more pranks on backup quarterback Matt Cassel or thinking of more ways to torment his sidekick.
He also won’t be on a football field trying to find that elusive chemistry with his cast of new receivers.
Brady plans on spending his four days off in New York with girlfriend Bridget Moynahan, one of the stars of the ABC show “Six Degrees.”
“I’m going to go see my girlfriend,” the Pats quarterback said before leaving yesterday. “She’s been coming up to see me quite a bit in the last few weeks, so I’m going to see her in New York.”
While Moynahan is still filming and won’t have a break from shooting until February, according to Brady, they’ll squeeze in time.
When asked if he would have a completely football-free weekend, Brady shook his head. Maybe if he was on a secluded island somewhere, that might happen, but not in New York.
“I’ll be watching everything, keeping on top of the other teams,” Brady said. “Even when you get away, you can’t. I’m always interested in the other teams we’ll be playing. I’ll be watching (next opponent) Buffalo this weekend, I’m sure.”
Before heading out yesterday, Brady did get in some practice with his newest receiver, Jabar Gaffney, who was signed Tuesday. He likes what he’s seen so far from the former Houston Texan.
“He did great. I think he has some familiarity with our system, being in Houston with (former Pats quarterbacks coach) Chris Palmer,” Brady said. “So, I thought he did a nice job picking things up. I’m excited about seeing him out there. Hopefully he adds some depth and some production.”
As for his pal Cassel, with whom he engaged in some sophomoric pranks last week, Brady (who left the backup quarterback’s car on cinder blocks) said he didn’t think he needed to resort to any more tomfoolery.
“He’s afraid of me,” Brady said of Cassel. “He knows if he does anything, I’m coming after his tires. He’s learning.”
