View Full Version : Mariners vs RedSox April 11,2007 - Felix vs Daisuke
southcarolina
04-11-2007, 11:27 PM
Two in a row. Im undefeated. I apologize to Mariner fans for heaping so much mojo on them yesterday. Mojo is a precarious thing - im still getting my ratios evened out.
Today we have:
"Andrew" Daisuke Matsuzaka vs Felix "The King Is Dead" Hernandez
Key Matchup:
Brendan "Nature Boy" Donnaly vs "Rowdy" Jose Guillen: CUZ WHETHER YA LIKE IT, OR WHETHER YA DONT LIKE IT, YA BETTAH LEARN TO LOVE IT!!!! AHHHH WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Key Stats:
The team reached its Due Saturation Point yesterday with their offensive explosion. A day after recession of the Due Index team wide is to be expected. But while the teams aggregate Due-ity may be lower, several players individual Due-ity has actually risen since yesterday, including Dustin Pedroia (83.5%), and Mike Lowell (87.9%).
Julio Lugo is tied for the team lead for stolen base percentage at 100%
J.C. "BP" Romero's Suckitude Ratio continues to blow through the stratosphere like a JC Romero hanging curveball thrown at any middling high school batter (134%).
Jason Varitek still has the nicest butt in the AL. Or at least thats what Mrs SC says.
The RedSox lead the Mariners in stolen bases this year 2 - 0.
Did you hear that DO? Your being out stolen based by a guy named ummm wait...what did i just say?
*goes back to re-read the previous Key Stat*
Holy mother luvin' crap. The RedSox have more stolen bases than someone. The RedSox. Cats living with dogs. Mass chaos. I need to go lie down.
Felix Hernandez is not on the Top 100 list for career batters hit among active major league pitchers. He did however lead the AL in Wild Pitches and Unsubstantiated Hype last season. Lean in guys!!!
Mojo for tonight:
For Coco:
http://www.people.freenet.de/owvjgfwo/pics/cocomojo.jpg
Triple mojo for Coco tonight. You didnt think that silly little 4 pic rule would keep me down for long did you?
For DO:
http://zebox.com/ze/images/trend415_-_claudette1.jpg
Claudette did us wonders the night before last. Lets give her another chance.
For JD Drew:
http://www.bmi.com/images/musicworld/j/JD_Natasha1_500.jpg
Never heard of her.
And for my special bullpen mojo tonight, Mike Timlin:
http://www.bartcop.com/hayden-panettiere-heroes.jpg
Im not sure who this is, but she came up on a GIS for "Timlin". Thats good enough for me.
Just.Win.
Damn...i didnt think i'd ever get this posted.

Nice work, SC, way to put some effort into the game thread. DO's mojo isn't showing up for me, might need to find something more linkable. I'd hate to start the game with somebody's mojo broken.

What is there really to say. Hernandez pitched a really good game and Dice-K was ok (could have been better).

I blame the post auto merger monster. I was undefeated until it was installed.
I now cede game thread starting duties to the next person :)

Hernandez was dominant and Matsuzaka was solid. I'll take 7 innings and 3 runs everyday of the week. We'd win 120+ games if our pitchers did that every night.
One thing I noticed was that the ump had an inconsistent strike zone. That's not even close to an excuse and I take nothing at all away from Hernandez.
Go get 'em tomorrow boys.

Sorry I missed your gamethread man. I had a chance to actually watch this game on something other than a 14" laptop screen at 700K. My apartment could have been on fire and I wouldn't have been distracted.

Before the double post auto merger - undefeated
After the double post auto merger - not undefeated.

I'm kinda pissed that they lost...but hey what can ya do. Hernandez was dominant, they couldn't hit anything. I think Dice-K pitched well but didn't have the same stuff he had against KC. Oh well...there're plenty more games to be played.

Usually I try not to have the old "Yankees Complex" whereas I devote more hatred for them than love for the Red Sox but I thought this might cheer some people up tonight...
The Red Sox were dominated by Felix Hernandez.
The Yankees were dominated by Ramon Ortiz.
Sleep well on that notion folks...

For the combined use of "gay", "huge", and "sucked" in the same paragraph, does that EARN you Rep or DEDUCT Rep? I guess it depends on whether you bat left-handed or right-handed... :D

I'm just giving Steelerfan a hard time. As for Matsuzaka, if he can continue to pitch the way he has in his 1st two starts consistintly, I'd consider a little hand release - but probably nothing more than that. I have to maintain my dignity, after all.

I have a question....
Why do you suppose Francona didnt pinch hit for Pedroia in the ninth? He had looked very overmatched vs Hernandez throughout the game, Cora could have played second if they had come back and tied the game. Why not give someone else a shot? The only thing i can think of was that Hernandez was just plain dealing, and maybe Francona thought that having a guy who had faced him twice already was preferable to a guy facing him for the first time. But i dont know. I was very surprised when there wasnt a pinch hitter.

I'll have to look at Cora's and Hinske's #'s later but I would've expected either of them up in that spot. In Wakefield's 1st start, Tito also didn't PH for Mirabelli late in the game in Wake's 1st start and the next inning, Wake wasn't even on the mound. So that's 2 early season PH situations where Tito's elected to stay with his starters. Puzzling to say the least.

Jesus....
I was looking at hernandez's stats....
In 2 games Hernandez has faced 58 batters in 17 innings. He has given up 0 runs. He has allowed 8 baserunners, 4 hits and 4 walks. His 50 outs are as follows: 18 strikeouts, 32 groundball outs, and 4 flyballs. Four. In 17 IP, he has had 4 flyball outs. A 99 mph fastball, 90+ mph breaking pitches, a sick changeup that i believe they clocked in the HIGH 80's last night. And a ridiculous GB/FB ratio. I remember seeing one pitch last night that didnt seem to go exactly where he wanted it to.
I know its only 2 games, but Jesus the kid just turned 21 a week ago or so. This guy is sick.

While Daisuke didn't look great last night, we'll give him a mulligan since it was his first home game and he was probably nervous.
Having said that, giving up 3 runs is quite often more than enough to get your ballclub in the "W" column. Unless, of course, your opponent is smoking people with a 1-hitter...

I think Francona's unwillingness to PH is a theme we've seen from him the entire time he's been around, and is, perhaps, cause for concern.

Tito always has some lame excuse as to why he doesn't PH for anyone. Like PH'ing Dougie for Tek. He said "Well, if Doug goes down, Alex Cora's our catcher".

I'm sorry, I can't fathom why anyone would want Dougie PH for anyone in any situation. But your general point is well taken. Perhaps we should have a thread for this discussion?

I'm not saying I would PH Doug for Tek but there was a blow-out a last year and the media knew Tek was hurting. They asked him why they didn't put Mira in there. That's when he used the "Alex Cora" excuse.

Actually SC, I saw it compeltely different. Everyone looked overmatched but Pedroia was able to work the count and give the guy on deck a chance to see the pitches, force Hernandez to work harder and give Matsuzaka a bit more rest etc.
His first AB sticks out as he worked a full count before making an out and he was the first one to challenge him at all.

Haha, touche. I normally don't say that kind of thing, but when the pitcher you managed to steal from one of your friends has a dominating game, you tend to get a little crazy.
BTW, you forgot "fantasy". :D
