Eck just said on the pre-game that cold weather is not condusive to the curveball. It's supposed to be 50 deg. dropping into the 30's during the game. I guess we'll have to see...

Woo-Hoo! Game time! (ugghhh Tina Cervasio )
Oh, this is the ump that screams out strike and out call but has an inconsistent strike zone. Should be fun
Great, it's a junk throwing lefty...we're doomed!

Nice to see the Sox hitters work the count and get Perez to throw close to 30 in the first inning. It eats away at his pitch count and now everyone has had a chance to see all of his pitches. 3-0....and we're off...

He set a record for defense for third basemen while he was on the Marlins. I play a lot of MLB 2K7 and Joe Morgan always gushes about Lowell's defense.

Jeter's gold gloves really are an embarrassment
After AGonz didn't win it last year, the Gold Glove award is a pointless honor in my eyes. The Red Sox tied or supassed all kind of defensive records and a grand total of ZERO GG were awarded.
Good job, Coco! Keep that bat on your shoulder.

Hey, that's just good scouting. They set up their defense properly.
Julio Lugo is going to lose that lead-off spot in a hurry. But they can stick Coco "Casey at the bat" Crisp up there either. Hell, maybe they'll stick Drew up at #2.

That's my kinda question right there! I know I read about it recently and there was actually an explanation of the 'backwards' K for striking out looking. I don't remember but I'm gonna look it up now.

Henry Chadwick who is considered the inventor of the Box score, used "K" as it is the last letter of "struck" for a strikeout apparently. The backwards K is more modern.
As for the "Big Apple"

This is when manny pisses me off defensively and he does it all the time. Instead of throwing to the correct base he just whips it to third and prays he gets lucky. THROW TO 2ND BASE!!! That way only one runner is in scoring position.

Beckett thowing a ton of pitches and gave up a run on a sac fly. Lowell made two "E"'s on two consecutive plays. Drew had a good catch in right. Now Youk is up with Lugo on first on a BB.
Beckett is having control problems. But he may get to the fifth.
Nice Youk...Hopefully Papi or Manny will get their first HR of the season next inning.

Yeah, I saw him (Snyder) pitch against the Nats last year an he looked like a bulkier Arroyo. Snyder might be a Derek Lowe kind of guy. A sinkerballer who starts in the pen and then could maybe impact the rotation. Let's see Snyder!
I think both teams are in the same boat. Both starters out and the game will most likely be decided by the BP's.

Yea that's what I like to see, good game and no settling for 3 because we hammered their bullpen. Beckett's got his heat but mabye too much, he needs to stay in the strike zone ... but even Remy was talking about the tight zone that ump put on. We got to see both Romero and Piniero throw one very nice inning each. Drew hit the ball well and keeps the fielding solid at RF - I don't think we've ever had a player like him behind Manny and it will be fun to see how it plays out. Overall, a fun game to watch and I'm looking foward to more.
I was just thinking about how this could be one of those years where we see the talent in the likes of Pedroia, Lugo, Piniero and J.C. Romero really take a turn and develop their talent into skills. 2004 was a good team because everybody brought out the best in each other and I think I can see this starting to develop. Loading our relieving corps with a lot of young, talented players and throwing Paps on the top is the best thing to happen coming into the season.
